What people say
The staff and owner were extremely helpful and friendly. We were
concerned we wouldn't have much choice for breakfast as we are all
vegan, however they made a fantastic cooked breakfast for us as well as
cereal and toast. The room was nicely furnished with wooden floors and a
bunkbed for the children. The hotel is located right on the beach,
although in quite a rundown looking part of Sandown it is handy for the
seafront and the shops. It is also very near the Dinosaur Isle museum. all reviews »
Good basic hotel with friendly staff, I only had breakfast but it was good and well cooked although a rather limited choice. If it matters to you the bar was surprisingly cheap compared to the local pubs. Clean and well maintained. it's an old Victorian house and retains some period features in the public areas which gave it a bit more ambiance than a soulless block.
Location was superb, parking at the hotel was limited, but we were fortunate to find a space each day.Excellent braekfast was served by friendly staff, view from the bedroom balcony was stunning. The weather when we were ther was really good which helped us enjoy the whole weekend.Would come back as the holiday was a fantastic braek.
This was a great hotel in an excellent location. It was clean and the staff were really helpful. They replied immediately to an email request when booking. This is not 5 star, but for the price we paid you don't expect that. It was a nice room.
Perfect boss! I just chat with him and the stuffs, at last the boss give me a large room with the windows towards the sea.
Really thx a lot!
Sorry for my bad English, good luck my friend. Hope u like my little gift.
Unprepossessing exterior but inside was well decorated, well appointed, attractive and clean. Staff friendly and really nice when I turned up late and unexpectedly for a second night. Only thing - beds VERY hard.
The hotel staff were friendly and the rooms were clean and tidy and have just been renovated. the hotel is only 10m from what i class as the best section of the Sandown beach.
Staff friendly and attentive. Rooms clean and comfortable. Cooked breakfast cooked fresh to order. Bar prices very reasonable, matching Whetherspoom prices!!.
We enjoyed the location overlooking Sandown Bay.The room was warm and clean as was the bathroom.Breakfast was good and the staff polite and very efficient.
Good breakfast considering the price. The bar was open throughout the evening. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall the hotel is good value.
i took my 14 year old granddaughter we were very satisfied with everything.cleanliness, good breakfast, very nice staff, very accomadating,.
location was excellent, staff very friendly and helpful. always asked if you required more at meal times. rooms very clean but basic.
Very friendly and welcoming nothing was to much trouble and they bent over backwards to make sure you got the breakfast you wanted.
The staff were very friendly , always making sure every thing is spot on couldn, t fault it in any way would stay there again :-).
Excellent staff/service, room with sea views, modern and recently refurbished. Great value for money. Nice breakfast with choices.
costal path runs right out side, right on sea front, value for money, clean, warm, break fast very good and excellent value.
Excellent value for money, hotel very clean, staff very efficient , would definitely stay again.
Food was very good.
Quilt cover and sheet are really new and clean. The location is just near the sea, and traffic is very convenient.
The hotel is very clean the Owner and all his staff are excellent . We would definitely stay at this hotel again.
The staff we're all verry helpful, hotel was situated in a great location with good local transport connections.
Nice and cheap with excellent sea view from our room. Bar was pretty good for the evening.
Room was very clean.
I enjoyed everything, the staff were friendly, the hotel was lovely and clean and room service was excellent.
Very friendly staff and is well situated for the local amenities & buses.
Breakfast was lovely the location is great and the staff were lovely.
The excellent way staff tried to help when my husband became unwell.
Very clean food wonderful staff lovely management very welcoming!!!.
Basic but clean and well maintained, friendly and helpful staff.
clean room and the overall price
good if your out and about.
Lovely hot shower
Comfy bed
Close to town
Clean room.
Staff were friendly and always happy to help.
Price, free parking nearby (till April 1st).
Very clean and cheap. Right on the beach.
The great breakfast and the hospitality.
Very nice hotel, near to the beach.
Friendly staff, room was decent.
Very cosy and comfortable.
Room with a Seaview.
View and breakfast.
Location, price.
all is very ok.
Good breakfast.
Good location.
Food.
Comfortable walk from the train station and easy access to buses nearby.
Directly opposite a lovely beach although the view is somewhat obscured by a building on the beach.
Bed was comfortable although the room itself was very cramped - bathroom door could not be fully opened.
Staff were very helpful when I had a problem with the shower.
Plenty of eating options within an easy walk of the hotel.
Sandown is much less hilly than Shanklin or Ventnor.
The room was nice and quiet, you couldn't hear noise from the bar or from other rooms. The TV had a good choice of radio and tv channels. The shower was nice. The location was great, right on the beach and close to train and buses, although there were derelict buildings to both sides and it is on the quieter side of town. The staff were also very nice. It is a good hotel if you are on a budget.
With a bit of help this could be a fantastic hotel ,rooms were very
clean ,staff were ok but need a little more people skills ,breakfast was
great , I would stay again if the beds were softer had a back pain all
the next day.
I stayed there for two nights in October. The staff are very friendly and helpfull. The single room was basic, but very clean. Breakfast cooked well and enough for must people. Serving staff very good.
location, breakfast. A quaint somewhat dowdy hotel with friendly staff. It could do with a makeover but it was not an unpleasant experience.
it was very clean and the staff were very helpfull.
We stayed on a Wednesday night so didn't expect the very loud
entertainment just one floor down from our room. The music continued
until well after 10pm and the fire door kept being left open outside our
room, meaning we could hear everything very loudly so the children
couldn't get to sleep. A family room where there will be children
going to sleep early should really be away from any loud noise.
The sound proofing to the corridor was a bit poor and the fire door closers seem to slam the doors a bit noisily. Will be nice when the lift is installed. Car parking could be a problem in the summer.
Reception wasn't manned a lot of the time, especially when we were leaving. The dinner menu was basic, not a lot of choice, so we ate out every day.The placement of the wi-fi was a joke, you had to sit right at the back near the dining area to get a signal, this needs upgrading to cover the whole hotel.
The bed was a little hard. I was fine, but my wife struggled more for me. A minor issue, but worth noting.
None.
although the rooms have been renovated, the rest of the hotel is quite dated and in need of some attention. however, if you're out all day and only using it to sleep in, then there isn't an issue.
No Wi-Fi although this is a lucuary not a nessity!.
The bed was a little hard but we managed.
The bed was a bit narrow and the shower was a bit of a dribble. This is perhaps because everyone has breakfast at 8.30 so everyone is using the shower at the same time.
we have no complaints at all.
look of the hotel, badly in need of an outside paint job and too many BIG plants in the reception/dining area. chairs badly worn in the dining area could do with a bit of a renovation downstairs.
Could of had bigger table in bedroom to put things on.
No lift but staff are more than willing to help with bags etc going up down stairs.
limited hot water for showers and tap, warmish in evening, cold in morning. bar had limited choice-only limited slot for breakfast.
Through the window, I can only see buildings which very close to my room that airflow is very limited. The room is not worth 71 pounds.
Limited parking but this is the same for all beach front hotels.
Breakfast was a bit weak. Instant coffee in a pot is not filter coffee which isn't that expensive. One poached egg on toast seemed a bit stingy too.
Although the mattress was very hard, I did not have a sore back which I thought I might.
The mattress on the bed was not too comfortable (hard).
Nothing.
Needs a little updating but still lovely.
Would have been nice to have known before check in that the advertised restaurant was closed and no evening meals available. However there were plenty of eating venues close by.
bit dated and part building work that has been stopped cut off view from breakfast room.
No parking
Dated communal arrears
Could only have cereal or fruit juice or grapefruit for starter at breakfast.
Nothing.
Very scruffy outside! Couldn't connect to Wi-Fi despite the
best/worst efforts of male staff member (Manuel as in faulty towers).
The stairs! :(.
Rug was not hoovered all week. Windows with sea view double glazing 'blown' obscuring the view and fingerprints on windows, which we had to clean for the 'Sea view'.
No parking and dated, beds hard, rooms hot, scruffy on outside.
Down turn in the Sandown Area, shops and businesses closing.
The bed was the hardest bed I have every slept on - got very little sleep in the 2 nights we were there.
Very difficult to park the car, double yellow lines everywhere.
Single bed really small!.
Room is small.
Mattress hard.
Had a back room which had no view. General feel of the hotel is a bit 'tired'.
Shower pressure was awful and water temperature fluctuated between hot and cold.
Able to get Wi-Fi access in the room but reception was intermittent, although to be fair they only advertise it as being available in 'Public areas'.
The shower room could have been cleaner and the bedding was not great. The duvet cover was very old and thin, and kept exposing the duvet which was very old and worn. There was also no top sheet which I thought was strange for a hotel. The nightly entertainment was quite loud, and although you could not hear it from the bedroom (we had a downstairs room), you could not sit downstairs in the bar for a quiet nightcap. The bar was also very poorly stocked and did not take credit/debit card.
The beds were like rock hard the bedding was old and looked like a
hostal , duvet was very thin had to ask for second .nothing in room
matched all just felt tired.
The mattress very hard, did not sleep to well. If I was a large person the bed would have been to small. The hotel could do with a revamp.
lack of parking facilities, beds a bit narrow.
it was tired looking inside and out. would look better if the new part was finishened or knocked down.
