Excellent value for money. (An added bonus was its location alongside the grammar school I attended 1943-48 which I hadn't seen since then!). We were attending a local wedding and all the staff were very helpful providing directions and information regarding the venue.I thought the Hotel was just wonderful and the staff helpful. I will recommend the Hotel to friends and stay again myself. .

The Happy hour in the bar was a nice option and the food is good also.you could check out in te early mornings if you had other arrangements. friendly atmosphere. The room was very comfortable, the staff were very friendly.Friendliness of staff and efficiency when my room had been allocated to someone else I was changed to a bigger and nicer room. the breakfast was very good, perfectly cooked and lots of hot fresh coffee. Visiting Sheffield Hallam University for open day. the comfort, the warm welcome from reception. Comfortable, quiet, good food. The pool and spa was wonderful, very clean and refreshing. Excellentfacilities, breakfast was good, choice of hot or cold food. Willdeffinatly stay again, more than one night this time.The Hotel was ideal for my trip however, next time I would choose a Hotel closer to the centre of Sheffield as its a problem with roadworks surrounding the Hotel. although the Carlton is a very busy hotel , staff try thier best to clear a guest through reception as quickly as possible. General appearance. The swimming pool was small but adequate, it was the reason we chose the hotel. The Jacuzzi wasn't working. Sauna was a welcome extra.Breakfast was very good. The pool. one evening we ordered a fantastic baked field mushroom starter and goats cheese bruschetta starter - perfect, imaginative, vegetarian fare. bed was squeaky. the round bottom to the bath. Breakfast staff only 1 - was too slow tea and toast never arrived!. the reception was very scruffy and needs a refurb, it could put people off seeing a room (which was excellent). The reception staff were a little off-hand. Three times I went back to my room and three times I couldn't get into the room due to the keycard and had to go back to reception to have it rectified. Only one small problem was the comfort of the bed - it was a bit toofirm, but my prefrences could differ than others. Next time I willprobably bring an extra pillow. Nothing it was a very clean and comfortable hotel. The receptionist however, was rude abrupt and unhelpful. She let the Hotel down in a very real sence.I would like to be able to have an extension on stay, without having to pay for a full night. for a nominalextra charge. Sauna wasn't working properly.A bit noisy on a Saturday night as the hotel caters for functions - weddings etc., but other than that very good. Bed was hard. The Jacuzzi was broken. Although it appeared good our room was very basic and not especially nice, this could have been because I needed a twin room so was restricted.Grubby guest room,hadnt been vacuumed. Back office reception area which was on show was messy. Bar area was very quiet ,the tables had been cleared but weren't wiped. Disappointed with the overall cleanliness but facilities were good. Some meals we ordered were poor - a pizza that looked as if it came out of the freezer and a disappointing ploughmans that looked as if it had seen better days. We ordered breakfast in our room and on a couple of occasions it turned up late and we got tea instead of coffee - not good for business travellers who have a tight schedule.The hotel fire alarm sounded at 0330 hrs. This had also happened the night before apparently. Was told by a member of staff that someone would be looking into it. Thought they might have done that after the first time!!. I ordered fish and chips from the bar in the evening. The food was apalling, that was a bad meal. The batter tasted like an old shoe, I kid you not. The chips were soggy and not nice and I think the mushy peas were born last century. Truly awful, not cheap. Do you really think this food is good enough?.
