The staff were amazing. We were welcomed like family, they could not do enough to help us. We were there for my son's wedding in Oxford, and they offered to look after our dog for the afternoon. She was fussed, walked and fed and probably had as much fun as we did! Cannot recommend this hotel enough. A beautiful building and a perfect place to spend the evening catching up with friends after a day shopping in Oxford. Rooms were lovely and incredible value. They had everything we needed and the setting is very peaceful. We will be back.
all reviews » A character pub set in Oxfordshire countryside. Great location as long as you have your own transport. 10 minute drive from nearest Park and Ride, so can be in Oxford very quickly. Extremely clean accommodation. Hospitable host. The room was comfortable and welcoming.Attention was paid to little details ie toiletries,nice teas,good bedding etc. The restaurant was really lovely and the food very good. In the countryside only 4miles from park and ride. Real friendly atmosphere. We were well looked after by very attentive helpfull staff and host. The food we had was very well prepared and served.nothing was too much trouble. Lovely surroundings and very friendly and welcoming staff. Food was excellent and the place had a very relaxing atmosphere and a log fire. Location in quiet village, not far from Oxford. No negative comments whatsoever. Wasn't clear what breakfast options were. We were asked what we wanted so ordered eggs etc. one only wanted toast and coffee. It seems breakfast is set price (£10) which is fair for those who have a full cooked breakfast but a bit steep for Toast and coffee. Having said that, everything was lovely quality, service was great and the rooms are such amazing value we were very happy with the whole stay and that's just a note for anyone else staying. Rooms not adequately soundproofed. If you have room next to kitchen can be disturbed by food preparation. Extractor fans that run for a shorter period would be an asset to the bathrooms. not very good lighting in room for reading or putting on makeup. Some aspects of the accomodation could be an irritation to guests. Green emergency exit light glows quite brightly in the room at night. Sound from adjacent rooms carries quite clearly. Outside tables for patrons near to the accomodation could present more of an issue in Summer months. Rooms are situated at the back of the pub in a separate building overlooking the patio area were pub patrons sit outside in good weather which could be problem for some people. The bathroom fan was noisy every time you put on the light, no major problem. Parking prices in Oxford City are astronomical and we decided to visit other villages and towns nearby instead. Bathroom needs updating. Nothing!. Nothing. Nothing. The bathroom needed a facelift but apparently this is planned shortly. Needed another bedside table, only one on oneside. Not enough hangers/storage for clothes. We stayed 3 days, room was not serviced, bed not made and cups not washed or bin emptied which was disappointing. Bathroom fan stayed on excessively long. Noise insulation between rooms. Breakfast only available after 8:30 am. Rooms were a little noisy. Parking is difficult. A good drive from Oxford - 15 minutes, but an awesome country experience. Nothing. The adjoining accommodation/rooms need a spruce up especially the bathrooms. Bathroom could do with updating not very clean Toilet was faulty did not flush Staff did not let us know that the Resturant stopped serving food at 8pm because of function. The address on Booking is incorrect. Google the hotel before you go. Meal expensive. Plugs in room not working and wasn't repaired in the 3 days of stay. Room wasn't made up on one of the days and not rectified despite reporting the problem. Food was exceptionally slow. Internet was not working and has not been working since June. Bookings.com and Talkhouse still advertise as free wifi provided. I specially booked the room as I needed wifi. When I raised the problem with the manager he was unconcerned and told me to contact BT.
