I recently stayed in the Hilton in York and I have to be honest, I came away feeling ripped off. It nearly put me off trying the Hilton again. I tentatively booked the Double Tree for 2 nights - I have a sweet tooth and the warm cookie was a real incentive - and a lovely touch. I have got to say that I loved the hotel. I usually stay at the Matfen Hall but I will always check the Hilton first now as everything about my room/stay was perfect.

I stayed at the Double Tree at the Newcastle Airport because I had an early flight the next morning. My kids and I enjoyed an excellent meal at the restaurant before they headed back home to Durham. The staff were exceptionally friendly and professional. The room was perfect. Location at airport is convenient to city, beach, Hadrian's Wall, national park/forest. Bus stops essentially across the street from hotel. Catch the expess bus and in city center in 15 to 20 minutes. Staff excellent, helpful, polite in all contact. Room clean, well designed, modern and up to date. I got a great rate. i especially appreciated the proximity to the airport terminal-- it was approx 4 in the morning when we arrived. the checkin was painless with A very understanding clerk, who promptly gave us delicious hot freshly baked chocolate cip cookies. the room was super-large and comfortable. Surprisingly quiet considering supper location. Ideal for touring Northumberland and Newcastle. Easy access to metro system. Underground secure parking Comfortable clean room of good size and really good bathroom. Friendly efficient staff. Excellent brrakfadt and service. I stopped overnight on business recently and was very pleasantly surprised at the degree of luxury for a very reasonable cost. It's proximity to the airport is excellent, yet there is very little noise from the airport, the main road or other guests. We stayed because we were flying from Newcastle Airport early in the morning.We got a good price through letsbookhotel.com and had a v comfortable night in a smart room and an excellent meal in the Italian rest in the hotel.We would stay again. Staff were excellent. very friendly, high quality cuisine in beautiful surroundings with excellent service even through it was quite busy and only 100 yards from airport entrance nice place to relax before your holiday. Everything was as stated on the website, every part of my stay was perfect. Cannot fault it one bit. Would definitely reccomend to everyone and anyone! Hotel is beautiful. Even carrying 30kg of luggage, the walk to the terminal took less than five minutes. Perfect!. nothing. While there is little to fault, you should not expect Luxury that the Hilton name suggests ... think Travel Lodge and you will know what to expect. Down side is cost of food ... taste is OK to good but price is 30-50% more than if you go out. Nothing. Did not notice anything during my one night stay. The reception staff that were on duty when we checked in were miserable. Never smiled once. No small talk or general chit chat. Customer service really let the hotel down not what we expected from a Hilton hotel. How can I get point put on my Hilton Honours card when I didn't take it with me when we booked in to the hotel? The air conditioning didn't work in our first room so we had a very uncomfortable night. They tried to fix it when we reported it the following morning but it was a very temporary fix...for less than an hour. We therefore had to move rooms.They we very accommodating and put us In a room on the same floor so that the move was as easy as possible. Manager of the restaurant (Chris) was somewhat rude but they were busy when I tried to order room service. The restaurant was terribly loud, noisy and one of the waitresses was not very friendly. The food was good however, the music was very loud and choice of music was terrible (hard jazz, not allowing a relaxed setting). I would never eat there again due to the atmosphere!! I could not relax and have a peaceful meal. I had to request to be re-seated at a different table because there was so much noise by the chef staff at the grill area (dishes banging, etc.). Absolutely terrible. - Radio clock in room did not work - Didn't sleep very well because of outside noise. only 1 cookie ;). There was nothing I didn't like except perhaps the £5 a day parking, but for a hotel right next to the airport terminal I suppose its quite reasonable. 1. Difficult to contact the hotel. I send the mail to this hotel but the reply says I send the wrong address. room was a bit dark. Nothing. Ensuite small when compared to the rest of the room facilities. That said it was very well equipped. we could not fault our stay. Shower was not much more than a trickle, room wasn't as nice as in previous stays (eg. Clock radio has been removed). Being woken at four thirty in the morning by the fire alarm . I was disappointed that no one mentioned or apologised at checkout in the morning . I had an eight o clock flight and therefore needed a good nights sleep ,., I was unable to sleep again after the alarm went off. Heating system in the room not functioning properly, which ruined the overall experience. Stayed for 5 nights, sheets not changed once and could write name in dust on furniture. seems like bed made and towels changed each day, but all the housekeeping that was done. Zero. Reception took my credit card number on arrival to cover potential extra costs. We paid for everything (all meals and drinks) in cash but the £50 was still charged to my card. Now I have the bother of trying to get it back. Not ideal for visiting newcastle city centre but accessible via the metro. I wanted to have a sirloin steak in the restaurant and they had run out. Very disappointing, I can't believe a big hotel would allow that to happen. Towel rack was not working and was not fixed during my 2 night stay as promised. No bath Room not serviced on 1 day.
