What people say
Loved the whole place. Beautiful surroundings, fabulous accommodation, wonderfully clean & fresh bedding. We opted to have a meal in the house restaurant, as we were only staying for the one night - the meal was great and service was good. It's a great place to go and just chill out, take a walk around the small town area and enjoy the peace & quiet...extremely good service from the helpful & witty lady on reception with whom I had much friendly banter. She even telephoned me after . all reviews »
The location is excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Slaughters Country Inn and the tranquil surroundings of what is a stunning village. The staff were very welcoming, very friendly and attentive throughout the stay. Our room, in the main building, had beautiful views over the rear garden and ponds. It was very clean and comfortable and met with all of our needs. Nice to have a quiet lie in on the Saturday morning too and breakfast served until 10.30. We didn't eat at the hotel i.
Picture postcard village and hotel. The staff made us feel so welcome on
arrival. We were upgraded to a family suite which was truly luxurious.
It felt like we were in our own apartment with 2 bedrooms, a lounge and
a large bathroom with best ever shower. The rooms had 2 TV's and dvd
players, which we didn't use, but for a young family I am certain
they would be greatly appreciated. The large double bed was so
comfortable and the duvets and pillows sumptuous. With the snow fall all
around us, t.
Food was very good and although on first glance the prices seemed expensive, this seemed to be a reasonable price for the area. Villiers Room we stayed in was serviced daily and had teabags, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar and biscuits topped up daily. Bar area was comfortable, especially with the fire lit on an evening. Hotel grounds were lovely and located close to lots of attractions. Bourton-on-the-water is a 15-20 minute walk away and Cotswold Wildlife Park only a 20 minute drive. Staff were .
The hotel and the surrounding towns and countryside are just stunning. We booked a standard room but were given a beautiful cottage. It was stylish, clean and very comfortable. We ate in the restaurant for breakfast and dinner and were very impressed with the quality of the food. By far the most outstanding thing for us was the staff though, they really are excellent, so helpful and friendly, it made the stay that much better. I cannot fault anything about this hotel, it was a perfect weekend b.
Beautiful location. Set in stunning tree lined village/hamlet with babbling river running through.
Beautiful room, warm, clean, nicely designed. Nice personal welcome letter from manager pointing out key points of interest.
Great to be able to walk along country path to Boughton on the water. Nice to not to have to take the car.
A pleasant surprise to know if we return we can take our Dog - as are allowed in certain rooms and in the bar.
Everything from the lovely helpful staff to the location so relaxing surrounded by fields and trees and the garden going down to the river with ducks on where you could sit out and eat if you wanted or just relax with a glass of something, and the comfy cosy cottage style rooms, we will go back without a doubt as soon as possible. We also had brilliant sunny weather which helped but I bet even in winter it would be great to stay there.
The hotel is a characterful building in a very pretty Cotswolds village. On arrival we were warmly welcomed and shown to our room which had a super king sized bed and a lovely clean and modern bathroom. We ate in the bar which had a lovely atmosphere, great staff and delicious food. The cooked breakfast was freshly prepared. I had scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and there was no holding back on the smoked salmon!.
Make no mistake this is a Quality Hotel with excellent facilities and
well trained staff. We Dined in the Restaurant and enjoyed the delicious
Breakfast. I would have no reservation in reccommending this
establishment and would hope that other Hotels/ B&Bs in this
country who in lots of cases have forgotten the meaning of
"Customer service" would take a leaf out of this Hotel Groups
Business ethic.
The staff were very friendly, making us feel welcome and they went out of their way to be helpful, especially patient with an elderly couple. The rooms were spacious, very comfortable and clean. The restaurant was also above expectations, with a small but varied menu, including something for everyone. The food was beautifully cooked and presented. Good value for money.
We loved the hotel itself with its luxurious rooms. The staff cannot do enough for you. The surroundings are stunning. the atmosphere is very relaxed and the food and drink is amazing. This is the best place we have been to in the UK and the best hotel we've ever stayed in. We got a free upgrade for me partners birthday which just topped off a perfect experience.
The staff were amazing. Every single one was friendly and helpful. I wish I had got the name of the young lady who served us at dinner - she was very attentive and knew her wine!
The food in the restaurant was also fantastic. The venison was some of the best I've ever tasted.
The bar is cozy and would be great on a winter stay.
Slaughters Inn was fantastic! Our accommodation was great and the restaurant for dinner was lovely.
We had an 8 month old with us and we were provided with a cot and high chair. The kids menu in the bar was great, being able to choose various combinations was very helpful.
Overall, we wish we'd stayed longer!.
The personalisation towards us during our stay. Staff were very attentive, courteous and helpful but without being overbearing. The suite was very comfortable and ideal for our needs. The quality of every aspect exceeded our expectations. We would highly recommend this hotel to family and friends.
The location - chocolate box !
The staff were outstanding in EVERY way, the decor and atmosphere is relaxed and informal without compromise on the standard of accommodation, food and decor. Hitorical/ character filled retreat mixed with contemporary decor.
The location was amazing - Cotswold stone, stream running by, warm and welcoming interior. We were upgraded to a suite - wow it was gorgeous, very comfortable, spacious and full of character.
The staff were very excellent, food and service very good.
Location, beautifully kept buildings and grounds. Warm atmosphere. And lovely, large bedroom and bathroom. Very clean. Young staff, very friendly and helpful when asked, but perhaps more training needed, particularly in clearing tables in dining room.
Everything! Had a really fabulous stay for a special birthday. The Slaughters Country Inn certainly lived up to our expectations in every way. Such a beautiful location, so warm and comfortable, very attentive staff and a real touch of quality.
The staff were very helpfull and we were lucky enough to be upgraded as were having a celebration weekend with friends celebrating 2 wedding anniversaries(one a 40th) and a 60th birthday. It was a beautifull location and a perfect weekend.
Slaughters Inn
This is the best place we have ever stayed at in England. We were given an upgrade when we checked in. The staff was excellent. The food is excellent too. Karen was very helpful and we really appreciated the upgrade.
The bedroom was fantastic along with a luxury bathroom with it being all very comfortable.
The location of the Inn with beautiful surroundings and easy access to other stunning villages and towns is ideal. A great overall stay.
Wonderful location, away from main roads. All the staff extremely helpful and very friendly. Rooms were lovely and the beds comfortable. Breakfast was varied, cooked to order and delicious! Would definitely stay here again.
We loved our room, especially the bath in the bedroom. The staff where very helpful & friendly. The meal was lovely. We would defiantly use this hotel again. Thank you for making our romantic weekend away so special.
It was a surprize to have a lovely little cottage-like room with a downstairs sitting rm and upstirs bedrm. It was so easy to stroll out to take some lovely country walks and return to lovely garden for drinks.
Lovely rooms - even our standard double had a large bathroom with roll
top bath (Godolphin). Friendly staff. Great food. Gorgeous setting in
pretty village and walking distance (25 mins) to Bourton-on-the-Water.
We had Manor suite which was very comfortable and quiet and fully equipped.
Excellent breakfast - great choice and cooked breakfast well presented.
Excellent quality for the price and beautiful location.
The whole experience of staying at the Slaughters Country Inn was one of high quality. The staff were welcoming and attentive, the cottage was well equipped and comfortable and the food was excellent.
the staff were so friendly and we were accommodated via A change of room that was more suited to our needs (access issues)
the beds were really comfortable and it was very clean.
the garden was lovely.
Practically everything! WE asked for a blanket instead of a duvet as the room was very warm and got it straight away. We ate in the bar and the restaurant, the food was the same, not perfect but good.
Plenty parking; clean towels every day; politeness/attitude/ friendliness of staff; location in such a lovely little village and a good centre for visiting the area; petrol station not far away;.
Very friendly staff and a very relaxing break. Superb location and a real chance to have a battey recharge and escape from the everyday pressures of trying to exist in business in modern day UK!.
Old world charm, beautiful surrounds, walking distance to Bourton-on-the-Water & Upper Slaughter, convenient parking on site, friendly, helpful staff. Excellent breakfast included in tariff.
Loved the location and ambience of the hotel. Quality of the food was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful and accommodated our request for an additional night with professionalism.
Couldn't fault the Inn in any respect. Charming building in a lovely setting. Rooms, staff, food all excellent. Good value for money and wouldn't hesitate to stay again or recommend to others.
We had a beautiful room in the eaves, with separate lounge area and bathroom. It was stylish and homely. The bed, bedding and pillows were the best we have ever slept in! Very pleased indeed!.
Our whole experience of this hotel was good, staff all friendly and helpful at all times. We were upgraded upon arrival and, because of the cosy atmosphere, we ate in the hotel bar each evening.
Superb location for all Cotswolds villages, expansive greens for sitting/reading, close by river with path, walkers, children/dogs wading, exc staff/food, lg rooms, relaxing for long stays.
Was our second stay at The Slaughters Country Inn and was just as lovely as the first time. Staff, food and location - excellent, lovely weekend break in idyllic setting. Will go again.
a really friendly service and we even got upgraded to a suite! The cleanliness was of a very high quality. The dinner in the restaurant was very nice, and breakfast was excellent.
The beautiful setting, cozy room and the very friendly staff. We liked the sheep next door. Close proximity to other villages - Bourton-on-the-Water, Morton on the Marsh and Stow.
Roll top bath underfloor heating in bathroom large bed quality of
clientel - no riff raff on cheap deals!! Quality linen nice decor staff
extremley pleasant breakfast was amazing.
I liked the pure authenticity and quality of the hotel without any pretentiousness which often accompanies period country hotels of that standard. Plus the food was excellent.
A delightful small hotel in a beautiful village surrounded by magnificent countryside.
Comfortable with friendly staff in all departments, with good parking facilities.
The stuff is of great help, the room is surprisingly clean and comfortable and quiet, the breakfast is superb, the bar is well designed and of good taste. Great place!.
Exactly what you'd expect from a clean, enterprise-level country inn. Fine food and surroundings. Centrally located to Cotswolds. Roomy accomodations. Lovely grounds.
Everything! The staff are lovely, they will do all they can to make your stay most comfortable. The rooms are large and have all you need. Location is sublime.
this was the most wonderful room we have had so far, from London to Scotland. it's a 20 minute walk to the town but well worth it as you walk along a pathway.
The room was very nice and we were upgraded which was a benefit.
The reception staff were very helpful and friendly.
The location of this hotel is beautiful.
A brilliant rural location in the heart of the Cotswolds in a fabulous little village. Great staff service, comfortable room, good food. Great country walks.
a stunning looking building in a beautiful location.staff very friendly and helpful....made us feel welcome.room very clean and comfortable.food excellent.
Bar/drink prices too expensive - one pint of Staropramen lager and a glass of ordinary water (from a jug/tap, not bottled!) cost £7 - which is clearly way too expensive - you pay those prices in Paris, but surely not in Lower Slaughter!.
There wasn't anything that we could honestly say we didn't like at the Slaughters Country Inn. The weather was a bit hit and miss and could've been a little kinder but hey ho we're in Britain. You would have to be extremely picky to find something that would really upset your stay here.
A full length mirror and a mini bar in the room would have been a
benefit. We felt the bar lacked atmosphere and was a tad uncomfortable
and cold, despite the log fire in the far side. We would have been more
tempted to stay had there been more comfortable seating.
The Villiers Room bathroom floor tiles were loose and needed re-grouting and the cold tap on the bath kept falling off. It would be nice if there was a small games room or a pool table for the adverse weather days.
Very slight problem was being awoken early by either staff, other residents or herd of elephants? in room above us. Plumbing also ran into our bathroom so sounded and felt like they were also using our facilities. Very minor problem.
The furniture in the bedroom was a bit worn but this is a very mino point in the context of everything else which was lovely.
Nothing.
The bed was a bit too soft and rolled down at the sides which meant I kept waking up and moving back to the centre of the bed. So not the best sleep I've had.
We could not get the temperature in our room down which resulted in a sleepless night. For some reason the towel rack in the bathroom cannot be turned off and it radiates a very hot heat through to the bedroom.
was no aspect to dislike.
Nothing, this hotel is faultless.
We ate in the restaurant on both evenings. The first evening there was a large party in the main restaurant area and we were forced to dine in another room, for the most part, alone. We were having our dessert when the other tables started filling up. This rather spoilt the evening - no atmosphere, we wish we'd known we would have eaten elsewhere.
Menu in dining room. It was too fancy with strange combinations that did not go together. I had to have pork on our first evening as the steak was not available, even at 7.30pm. There was a strange coating on the pork and also a strange garnish.
The fish on the special fish night was very nice, even if very small portions and no peas. The tartare sauce was sofull of chopped onions that it tasted like onion sauce. Did not go with the fish at all.
Nothing! couldn't find anything not to like. Just wish we could have stayed longer.
I cannot say there was anything we didn't like.
Nothing.
The food in the restaurant was not worth the money we paid. My main meal of beer battered fish and chips was well over done and was disappointing.
But the breakfast the next morning soon made up for it, delicious and plentiful.
Dishes from the main menu pricey and on the small side, portion wise. Ok for those with small appetite. Would stick to dishes from the country inn classics menu next time. Food was tasty though.
No air con so room was very warm. Would have been nice to have a fridge
in the room. No face flannels in the bathroom. The local taxi that the
hotel called for us charged £25 return for a trip to Stow which is only
3 miles away. All just minor details though and we would definitely
stay again.
Nothing.
a Minor issue was that sometimes the used plates at breakfast sisnt get cleared quickly enough so we had to pile them on the window sill.
This happened twice in three days.
I commented on the rose climbing up the inn which looks poorly looked after, and was told it had rust and needs replacing. I think it spoils the look and would suggest a replacement very soon, or spraying and fertilising and watering to help it recover.
Not a dislike, but the bar could be a bit bigger so that we could meet friends in more comfort.
In hindsight, would have preferred a room rather than a cottage: found having the 'wardrobe' downstairs very inconvenient; having to go upstairs (stairs quite narrow) for water for the kettle and the sloping roof in the bedroom - not good for that side of the bed!.
Nothing.
Problem flushing toilet in the Penn Room. Limited dinner menu.
Service was very poor. Appeared there was no management supervision, lots of young potentially untrained staff. Although they were extremely pleasant, orders and requests were forgotten on more than one occasion in terms of food and beverage.
Dining room far too bright and hot.
The dinner was disappointing. We ordered fish and chips advertised as beer battered and expected them freshly fried with 'real' chips. Sadly we were served oven chips and oven baked frozen fish. Not what you would expect for the price. What a pity.
Nothing not to like.
Nothing really not to like, although the room we stayed in this time was not very sound proof and could hear conversations in the bar below. Furniture a little tired in some of the rooms and a little on the pricey side for drinks.
when we had to go home.
The main dining room doesn't have much ambience for dinner - bright lights, not well decorated - doesn't fit the country setting. The food was ok but not outstanding.
Too hot in room!!! Thermostat on room raidiator but not on towel
heater....so hit it could be dangerous for children/the old. When
we came to pay there was significant charges on our bill from the bar
and restaurant that were not ours. Luckily I checked the bill and had
them removed.
Not in a very good position for public transportation.
Staff a bit inexperienced - could simply smile and make eye contact more. Room floors/ceilings thin, so one could possibly get noisy neighbors. It's not a classic tiny cottage so perhaps slightly less character than one might want but also with none of the grab-bag risk that those might entail.
.Leaving.
can't think of a thing about the place that we didn't like. I wish they could be cloned.
How to improve the level of service from the bar and restaurant staff in the evening? In fact at one point we felt we had been forgotten. This seemed both a little slow, and also on two occasions was incorrect. It didn't feel as though all of the customers had the same level of service.
Having to leave and go home !!!.
our room was upstairs and to the right of reception area so was a little noisy until 11pm - ish but quiet afterwards; same in morning from 8am - ish but of no consequence then.
