My husband and I loved everything. Richard and Shelly are everything you would ever want in innkeepers! Friendly, accommodating, fun warm and inviting. Richard gave us a great lesson in beer, with so many tastings I got tipsy! Sue makes an incredible breakfast, we had dietary restrictions and what she came up with we are still talking about. Joe the apprentice and Katy were so precious! We couldn't ask for more...the locals were so warm, readily engaging us in discussion.We count our time there.
all reviews » We had a very friendly welcome. We arrived about 7pm expecting to be able to order a meal, unfortunately they stop serving at 6pm on Sundays (9pm other nights). Seeing how diappointed we were the young woman went to ask the landlord if he could reccomend somewhere or provide a sandwich. Richard very kindly made us fish and chips, which were excellent and so very welcome after a full day on the road. Everyone was friendly and the pub has a lovely atmosphere. The room was quiet and the following. stopped here on our return from the lake district, when we arrived we recieved a really warm welcome and was pleasantly surprised at the accommodation in particular the bathroom. This is the only pub in the village and as such was quite busy on the night we visited. There is a nice separate dining area from the bar if you prefer a little peace from the bar. We had an evening meal and breakfast and on both counts the food was very good. Our stay was value for money and would certainly recomm. Comfortable and clean, very friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast and the two evening meals we had were excellent especially the fish on Friday. We stayed at the Rose Crown as we were going to a gig in Holmfirth but found the B&Bs there quite expensive, the Rose and Crown was half the price, just a short Taxi ride to the gig costing £6. Stayed 15/6/13 for 3 days and loved it.Holmfirth area is lovely, watched a local cricket match on the village green at Thurstonland. Where else would you see the local farmer driving his cows down the main street past the pub for milking!! The staff were great and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Recommended. Lovely little pub/Hotel, a real jewel in the Yorkshire countryside. The staff were warm, friendly and very welcoming, nothing was too much trouble for them. The room was clean warm and spacious.The food was well cooked, plentiful and well presented,We will be going back...very soon I hope. Incredibly friendly atmosphere and staff who went out of their way to make our stay a success. My son was competing in a national sports competition and the landlord cooked us breakfast 2 1/2 hours early so that he could be fit to play! Outstanding service. The staff were really friendly and so helpful. It was great not having to go anywhere else for a meal and it was great food! Look out for the whale and chips! This is a real country pub where it appears generations of families all enjoy the hospitality. We were well looked after by the senior staff. The room was wonderfully comfortable and the food was good. The location is perfect for visiting the area of West Yorkshire and Derbyshire. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and perfect for walking. It is a lovely pub with great beer and food. If you use google maps navigation to get here you might end up in a village down the road. By the way:The shower was brilliant. Very friendly .Nothing too much trouble.Food excellent although a little limited for vegetarian but if asked I am sure they would have sorted something.I would stay again & recommend to friends. Found out as we were leaving there is a communal one in the corridor though. Squeaky floorboards but is an old pub after all. Nothing. The fact we had only booked for 3nights !!!. Only spending one night there!. There was nothing which we didn't like. There is nothing to dislike. Absolutely nothing!!. Not a lot really . Would have liked more vegetarian choice.But overall was excellent. Did not like the heated towel rail in bathroom could not turn it off and was too close to toilet, got caught by it a few times , Ouch. Nothing. Bathroom (room no.3 ) needs a little bit of work to meet today’s standards. But certainly not a problem at all. Nothing I can remotely think of. a little noisy on Saturday night with a singer in the pub but wasn't singing late. It's located pretty far from any shop or market to buy something. If you travel by car that wouldn't be a problem. Nothing to not like. n/a. Pillows could have been softer, but the bed was very comfortable. It is a hotel that is open till midnight. We had no issues considering it was bank holiday. Our only problem was, the floors creaked. Mind you, it is an old building so, we'll let you off. No hair dryer in the room (have got used to it being standard even in budget accommodation!). Nothing not to like. not a i didnt like but just felt the furnitue in room maybe needs updating. What's not to like?. it was a bit far out of town but we managed with a taxi it was not expensive. Room was a bit noisy until the pub closed at midnight. There was nothing that we could fault or didn't like. Unfortunately the hotel is unable to offer a front door key so therefore the staff must wait for you coming back at night. Although it didn't spoil our evening it did restrict our plans, had I have known I wouldn't have booked for this particular trip. Nothing really. Parking could be an issue but plenty of free on street parking available. View into kitchen entrance when going upstairs to rooms. Also from certain couple of seats in bar. Can't think of anything!. It would have been nice to have had a hair dryer in the bedroom. Could do with reserving some parking for guests as there are not many spaces and parking on street is pot luck. Also, jukebox was a bit loud at 11pm for the guest rooms. No dislikes.
