Great quirky place to stay. Terrific staff serving good beers and good food. Very handy for Gatwick (1st visit) or a handy stop over from the channel before driving north (2nd visit). Fabulous breakfast (although a bit slow) they made my wife a real fresh fruit yoghurt and I had a hearty calorie busting cooked breakfast with local produce. Could do with a handyman to tighten up the door handles and shower shelf, but it all added to the charm!!.
all reviews » Quiet, clean & comfortable room. Peaceful surroundings in a lovely position overlooking lake. The staff were professional, polite and helpful.Breakfasts were very good....good menu choices and beautifully presented. Enjoyed peaceful and leisurely breakfasts. Evening meal was very good too. Restaurant was very popular. Staff were very friendly without being overpowering, The bar/resturant was excellent and the food great. The breakfasts choices were very wide with very good portions to set you up for the day. Very good setting and easily accessible no noise at night to aid a very relaxing break. Lovely old building beside a lake, staff were magnificent - nothing was too much trouble. We arrived during Fathers' Day Lunch and they were very busy but assisted us promptly and efficiently. Had we known this place existed before we would have revised our holiday plans. The surroundings are wonderful, forest and lake as neighbors. Nice rooms and perfect service. The food - can only say 11 points out of 10!!! Dinner was over the top and breakfast delicious all fresh and newly baked! Can only say - visit the Wiremill!!!. The location was beautiful with a fantastic view of the lake from the restaurant. Bedrooms with en-suite facilities suited our purpose and were a very reasonable price. The food menu's are very entertaining and witty...so are the info boards. Only instant de-caff coffee available and it's a gastro pub! Room window wouldn't close; no water glasses in room, so had to use coffee mug. Yes there were faults with the room, but they didnt distract from our stay. Fantastic shower in the wet room, but did make the bedroom feel damp. Just one of those things. Several things in the room needed maintenance. Noisy deliveries early in the morning. Limited furnishings in the room. Room nice but no storage for clothes at all Very noisy from 5am in morning with staff above room and people coming and going. Very stuffy: windows right beside door so cant open very much to let air in room due to noise and security. There was nothing I didn't like. The shower has no door on it and water ends up all over the bathroom floor even if you point the shower heads away. The cleaner at 5am was directly above us dragging furnature around and making a horrific amount of noise. We put up with it for 30 mins before my partner had to go upstairs and say something. We loved the hotel and the staff were great but wouldn't go back because of the lack of sound proofing and subsequent tiredness the following day. Not at all as relaxing as it should have been!. Dogs take dogs , and no air con in the rooms which were very warm. Sink in our bathroom was slow yo empty. Room was a little small but it was excellent for the price paid and very clean and quiet. The room was clean but the shower had caused the tiled floor to break up. It had to be covered with a mat. It needs to be sorted out as it could be dangerous in bare feet if the mat moved. First guy I spoke to at the bar seemed a little unsure what I meant by 'I have a room booked' even though you are directed check in at the bar! But the next guy (presumably a manager) was brilliant and super helpful. Nothing. Leaving. Need a car for Gatwick and noisy water pipes at night. Signs to the place could be better. delivery drivers van outside my window at 7am radio blaring and engine running. Lack of chair in room. Hard to find location. The bedside lamp fuse blew in the night so we had no electricity in the morning!. Midges from lake and smelly drains. Six a.m. wake up call by bin men !. Room was cold. Two single beds to make a double. all good, no dislikes. The bed: "sleep boutique" makes me think the bed is going to be awesome! It wasn't. It was a rather ordinary (possibly aging) sprung mattress. The bedside tables were "funky" - wooden crates. Actually quite a novel and good-looking idea. But needed a glass top as watches etc fell through the gaps! NOT useful. ZERO drawer space. A few hangers on pegs on wall. NOT useful. the lack of info on all the steps and stairs for someone with a bad hip! and no socket near the morror for drying/styling your hair!. The toilet seat was broken, the bathroom stank of sewerage, the shelf in shower was broken and falling off the wall, ceiling in shower was peeling. Clearly none of the owners are diy chaps! After seven years they really need a re decoration. Late breakfast - only available from 8am. Rooms needed tidying - flaking paint in shower. Could do with a desk and chair in bedroom. Disorganised young staff with lack of customer sevices skills. Lack of attention to details in bathrooms.
