What people say
Everything - we arrived at 8pm and were welcomed by Kate on Reception. We had dinner in the hotel and the service and food (and price!) were impeccable. The room was clean, comfortable and we had a great sleep. The next day, the full Scottish breakfast was as good as the dinner the night before. We also used the pool, tree swing, trampoline and wandered around the property. We'll go again!. all reviews »
The staff were wonderful, the lounge and bar were very nice, the room was fabulous, the grounds and facilities were brilliant, and the whole place has great history. also a very short drive from Loch-ness.good family facilities and a great location for walking. Staff very friendly and food excellent. Beautifull and picturesque hotel, nice bar and lounge, lovely grounds. The hotel staff was wodnerfull, very polite, friendly and caring. Friendly staff, comfortable room and lounge.. Relax place...food was outstanding. Very tranquil location. Calm atmosphere. Comfortable grounds and bar area etc. Relaxingeasy to do!. surroundings were excellent for relaxing in. Very peaceful, excellent restaurant.Comfortable and clean room, leisure facilities, location. Peace and quiet. Excellent food. Cleanliness of room.Friendly atmosphere. Room was large and comfortable. In seperate block from hotel, but suited my disabled needs - no stairs. Stayed one night while travelling north, but would book a longer stay if having a holiday in this area. The location was secluded and quiet. It was a nice "get-a-way". It had a nice history write up available to read as well. I think the area would have been more enjoyable had it been more than a one night stay. Size of the room frendly staff who went out of there way to help you. The manager berry was really good. The room and view from the hotel was lovely and the staff were friendly although i felt the dining staff were inexperienced. It wouldn't put me off staying there again or recommending the hotel to others though.relaxing environment, plenty to do, good meals. food was great. Gardens ,and playgrounds ,facilities for children. Location, grounds. It was in a beautiful spot. Staff were accommodating and dinner in restaurant was lovely. Nice country location. Big Room. Not much at all. When the toilet refilled after flushing, the pipes were a bit noisy. Alarm went off in night, no staff available in reception on investigating the cause of alarm, found out next morning that pool alarm malfuntioned. The bathroom could use some updating (no mixer of hot and coldwater in sink). environment is pretty cool but but I think pond need to be clean; wonder is there any fishes and if the tv can run cd, it would be fantastic. bedroom decor could be brought up to date. No information available from reception as to where we could walk around hotel grounds.Initially disappointed to be given a standard, single room - when I thought I had reserved single occupancy of a twin room. Nevertheless the facilities were more than acceptable and the room was kept clean and tidy, which more than made up for the slight sense of initial disappointment. breakfast on the last morning was very disappointing, food was cold, very little choice, not enough for the amount of people, ruined last morning of holiday. The grounds, swiming pool, tenis court need work. We had a double room that was small . However the staff did offer to change us for the second night.no electric shower. The sauna was not working since start of July. The approach of the male receptionist who was reluctant to let us leaveearlier because they charged our visa in advance without our consent. Poor menu for my 14 year old daughter. I was put into a very small single room which was nothing like the pictures on your website. The reason this was done the hotel said was because letsbookhotel.com did not fax through the confirmation fast enough and they did not have a twin room for single occupancy left as the hotel was full. I was therefore very disappointed in my room which felt more like a cupboard.Slightly run down facilities. The chef cooked the main meal to perfection, only to be overheard through the kitchen door resenting the desserts we ordered as we were the last people in the restaurant. Completely ruining the evening and leaving us furious. No guest should ever have to experience what we overheard. For this fact, I will never recommend or visit this estblishment again. The waterflow was extremely poor and the amount of warm water wasbad. The half hotelroom price in advance taken from credit card is notrefunded, You pay 1.5 time the room rate this way. Several calls to thehotel do not solve this problem. (I was not the only one in that matter). grossly overpriced hotel and in need of extreme renovation, they are gettting away with murder at these prices, it is a genuine liberty to the tourist industry what they do. Pool was not heated so couldn't be used, bar had run out of basic stock i.e. Gin, Dressing gowns had black hairs on them!. If you are in the main part of the hotel, I believe it's a very nicecountry house, but as we were in one of the family room just behind thehotel, the room was dating back to the 80's (at least) and not very niceat all, despite its clean aspect.

Hotel information details
For your relaxation, the hotel provides a swimming pool and tennis court. Alternatively, you can simply stroll through the lawns and woodland paths.
The hotel sits amid beautiful surroundings, designated the Lady McAlpine Gardens, steeped in history. They hold an array of secrets, such as the oldest Diador tree in Scotland - called the “old man of Glen Urquhart”. The tree is over 400 years old! Other delights include a unique range of original Bee Boles that are set within the stone-walled top garden. The honey and honey comb was used, among other things, to make mead and wax for candles.
The gardens contain unique Chinese trees, rhododendron bushes and a huge population of blue bells, which bloom in March together with thousands of daffodils and crocuses.
The gardens are a delight for family picnics, open-air concerts, and for those wishing to enjoy bird watching for eagles, red kites, and all sorts of species of bird. Other rare creatures include Pine Martins, heron birds and otters in the pond, to name but a few. For those with patience, rare mountain and sea eagles can also sometimes be spotted. At night time, the resident bats come out to play and present a memorable display. The sounds of foxes, deer barking are nearby.

Information about the area
The beautiful Glen Affric, which is close to Glen Urquhart, is a National Nature Reserve and contains one of the largest surviving native Caledonian pinewoods in the United Kingdom. This Glen and its surrounding “sister” glens are home to an abundance of natural heritage and rich wildlife, including red deer, eagles, buzzards and osprey, pine martens, blue hare and red squirrel.
Forests, waterfalls and lochs provide a stunning backdrop for a host of outdoor activities, from walking and cycling, to fishing and canoeing, as well as excellent local attractions, gardens, whisky distilleries and the nearby Urquhart Castle and cruises on Loch Ness.
In winter months, skiers have a choice of Aviemore (Cairngorms) or Aonoch Mor (Nevis Range), both only a 50-minute drive from the hotel. The area around Strathglass offers 13 Munros, 17 if including those in West Affric.
