Very convenient location near bus and train stations and in town andCardiff Castle. If your room is within range of the wifi,it is freeotherwise there is a cost for the broadband cable. The Cardiff CastleTour (worth £18 for 2) is worth it. Tip: To avoid the stairs that takeyou up and then down to the lift to the reception on the 2nd floor, usethe back entrance. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We were upgraded upon arrival to a fantastic deluxe room. The hotel had a 24hr bar with a very friendly barman. Fantastic value for money. Would definately recommend to all. Great location was a plus point. 5*+++ will be going back.

The hotel staff were excellent, could not have been more helpful. Close to Millennium Stadium and Cardiff city centre. An ideal four-star hotel, with four-star service, to spend a sporting weekend in the Principality for an event like speedway's British Grand Prix.The staff were so friendly and the room was lovely. The location was superb for the Bay and the Centre. Excellent all round will definitely be going back and would recomend this hotel to everyone. For some reason we had a disabled room which made use of the bathroom sink a bit challenging as it was really low and we are both tall. Just one minor thing. Breakfast choice not very nice.I would have liked as a tourist to be able to gather some tourist information even just a map but the hotel has none.Also having a drink in the bar about 9.30 the noise of the TV was intrusive - music playing or music channel would make this a more pleasant and sophisticated experience. The exteria was extremely off putting, and I think if we were walking the street and looking accommodation we would have definataly given The Royal a miss. Local people we spoke to about our selected accommodation, ie air stewardess, taxi driver, turned their noses up at our selection. I must say all our fears were banished the moment we walked in through the front door.initially i was charged a higher rate for my room than what i had been quoted online, although this was swiftly resolved. The room i had booked was a twin room, but was actually a double room, and i was also charged for breakfast in the morning, even though it quite clearly states on the information that a continental breakfast is included in the price. Watch what you are paying for here!. Bar was a bit bleak (decor) and noisy (from non stop pop videos) but not a major problem. The rest was excellent. The local area was very noisy, its not the fault of the hotel. I think the location is the party centre of cardiff. It was Saturday night and maybe in the week its better. nothing to complain about. There was only one towel and no bath robes on arrival, however after raising this with reception it was rectified within 5 minutes. Only a small point but it would have been nice to have radio programmes available on the television. The windows did not fit properly, so there was a lot of street noise coming into the room, even with windows shut.You have to remember the reception is on the second floor up the lift. Not a problem just a bit confusing if you dont know. £3.70 for a bottle of beer. acess up and down stairs to lifts. An earlier booking in time would have been nice. very noisey until 4pm in the morning then the bin men arrived at 6.40. I would have liked soymilk available at breakfast.

By Car:
From the M4:
- Take junction 32, and then follow signs to the city centre on the A470.
- Stay on the A470 for approximately 7 miles (11.3 km).
- You will pass over a flyover and go through a number of traffic lights.
- When you enter the city centre you will see civic centre buildings on your left and the castle will be on your right.
- Once you pass the civic building and Hilton Hotel on your left, the road will bend to the left.
- Follow this road around past the entrance of the castle and through the traffic lights.
- Get into the left-hand lane before the 2nd set of traffic lights on this road. (The Angel Hotel will be on your left.)
- Take an immediate left at the traffic lights onto Westgate Street.
- The Millennium Stadium should now be visible on your right-hand side and you will pass an NCP car park on your left.
- Follow this road until it curves to the right, at which point you need to go straight on.
- Immediately on your right (past the bend) you will see Edwards Bar; the entrance to The Royal Hotel is on the left of this bar.

From Central Train Station (approximately 0.6 km/ 0.3 miles):
Exit the train station at the front. When you exit the train station the bus station will be directly opposite you. You will need to follow the road to the right of the station (for approximately 100 yards), past the taxi rank and NCP car park. Once you get to the traffic lights, turn left onto St Mary Street. The Royal Hotel is approximately 300 yards on your left. Follow this road for one block and you will reach traffic lights on the junction to Wood Street. The Royal Hotel is directly opposite above O'Neils Pub. You will need to cross the road and pass the pub called Edwards to reach the entrance on your left-hand side, still located on St Mary Street.
