Originally a coaching inn dating back to 1770, the The Best Western Plus Lake District, Keswick, Castle Inn Hotel is now a modern venue with views of Bassenthwaite Lake. Facilities were great - used the swimming pool every day. Staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent quality food - booked bed and breakfast but after eating in on the 1st night didn't want to go anywhere else. The Staff were always helpful, it was quiet and anice place to relax, and yet easy to travel to visit the area around.Excellant room, good facilities,very good food,and friendly and helpfull staff. We have stayed at this hotel before, and so far there has been nothing we did not like.There wasn't anything to dislike about the hotel. We did suggest that some form of entertainment would have been nice for cold weather holiday times. Apparently this is already being looked into. Evening meals were lovely though a little sparce but typically nouveau quisine which is really good. main course portion in restaurant small. could of done with a cash machine, as the pool table needed money to be able to pay.I would bring my oun toilet paper. Would recommend eating in the bar rather than the restaurant as the food there was most definitely not worth the money.easy chairs in the rooms could have been more comfortable. Room was very hot on arrival.The changing room facilties for the swimming pool were unkempt and the shower trays were full of hairs and rather dirty. In fact the whole of the swimming pool area appeared a little tired and in need of an update. There were also no robes and the towels were a little on the small side.The spa treatment room was cold, noise distraction from the traffic and bed had no place for the neck to rest in. on web site it said overlooking the lake and the way it sounded thought it was nearer than what it was.I wish the reception staff could be allowed to sit down. I'm sure having to stand for their entire shift will do long term damage to their feet, backs etc. I'm sure they would be just as welcoming and helpful if more comfortable!. Bar prices are expensive. Lakers Bar was cold on Friday night, Neither heating or the Fire were switched on. However on Saturday evening the Fire was switched on. the edges of the carpets needing cleaning once every 2 weeks. The restaurant lacked atmosphere on an evening. The one and only thing that would make the stay absolutely great ishaving the changing rooms ventilated I have been to the hotel over manyyears and it is the one thing that lets it down. Unless you are stayingin the hotel (ie going back to your room to change) the changing room ishigh in humidity and hard to get dry. I wish they would do soemthingabout it please!. unfortunately the fire alarm went off both nights of our stay, at 5am and 1am this therefore decreased the enjoyment of our stay. as theses were both problems with the system. I could not see the television from the bed. The only time I would have wanted to watch the TV was when exhausted after a walk and then I wanteed to lie on the bed and watch rather than in upright chairs.Noise in the evening. Kept awake until 2.00am with other guests shouting and dragging furniture. Wider, plainer menu would be welcome.Location. The rooms although comfortable were not top quality and the food was expensive. I did not like the choice of food for breakfast,I am not very keen on english breakfast, children's menu was poor as well.I liked the room , however the bed was uncomfortable, on the first night there was no heating in room, no fridge. Changing rooms for the pool were in need of updating - felt very sticky and quite shabby - not a pleasant place to change, and not ineeping with the actual pool area and the general standard of the rest of the hotel. The lighting in the pool area was also subdued which may be an issue for people with poor eyesight.

By Car:
- Leave the M6 at Junction 40 (Penrith).
- Take the 1st exit (if traveling Northound from London etc.), or the 4th exit (if travelling Southbound from Scotland), signposted Keswick.
- Follow the road until you reach the roundabout at the Rheghed Centre Services.
- Take the 3rd exit onto the A66, signposted Keswick, Workington.
- Continue to travel along the A66 enjoying some amazing scenery for approximately 48 km/ 30 miles until you see a signpost directing you to the Castle Inn.
- The ‘Castle Inn' sign will direct you to turn right.
- After this you should turn immediately right again passing a number of B&Bs on your left-hand side.
- Stay on this road until you come to a junction.
- Turn right at the junction and cross the bridge and follow the road until you reach the Castle Inn, which is at the very end of this road, on your left-hand side.
