The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. There was a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The superior bedroom was clean, spacious and the daily letter on weather forecast left on the bed was very helpful in planning activities. Food was very good - but has proved bad for the waistline!! I could not resist. The lounge was a comfortable area for coffee, reading the paper, etc. Wow, we travel alot but have rarley found such a friendly, quality Inn (hotel.) The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. the bathroom was well appointed with an amazing shower. the highlight though was the food and drink, an incredible atmosphere in the bar with real ales and whiskies galore. The food in the Bistro and restaurant is fantastic! we WILL be back!.
all reviews » The food was absolutely fantastic. Lovely old inn ambience too - very relaxing. The walk from the inn up to Sale Fell and through Pell Forest is a lovely hike. The fact we could use the local Spa facilities as well (for no added cost) was a lovely addition. Great relaxed atmosphere. Friendly, attentive staff. Excellent food, real ales in a cosy bar. Sophisticated. Would recommend to friends and hope to Stay again in the future. Absolutely beautiful location, picturesque views, great staff very friendly , the food was 5 star! The bar area looked rather tired compared with the rest of the Inn. bit slow to check us out in the morning but no big problem. Bassenthwaite (the area) is a bit limited, not much nearby and the lake itself isn't very hiker-friendly - lots of private estates. The Bistro could get a bit noisy if children were present. Bit pricey. Some rooms needed a bit of updating due to wallpaper becoming unglued at corners and some of the grouting being moudly - a couple of chips worn in the cast iron baths. having to leave. locals used entrance as smoking room. Nothing. My first visit to The Pheasant was in 1946 and I have visited perhaps a couple of dozen times since then. Always a pleasure - keep it up. It was quite cool in the dining room - not unbearable but no radiators seemed to be on downstairs. We often eat steak when out and we found the steak at the pheasant quite tough. nothing. A bit expensive. lack of fan in the room as the weather was humid. Too expensive Orange juice was foul. Scallops and black pudding was served without black pudding!!. room rate. The bistro staff on Sunday 13th October were not of the quality we expected of with the dishes thrown on to the table infront of us a little like Faulty Towers.
