Memorable stay in Tromsø Located in the city center, Thon Polar Hotel is one of the highest buildings in the city, stands the magnificent views of the surrounding area from the top floors. all reviews » We travelled to Tromso for the UEFA Europa League game against Tromso. Having no prior knowledge of the city. The hotel was excellent value for money and the breakfast choice was first class. All the staff were helpful and knowledgeable.We requested a room with a view and were delighted to be on the top floor looking over the city. We will definitely be back and will definitely recommend Tromso and the hotel Thon Polar to everyone we know. Thank you. what a great hotel! norway is expensive, so its important to feel that at least the hotel isnt ridiculously expensive! the rooms were very nice and clean, the breakfast was sooo worth it! really great spread! i stuck a few things in my purse for my early morning flight as i didnt have time to eat there and it was fine. location is also great, close to the bus for the airport. its a small city so you can easily walk everywhere. The front desk staff was extremely helpful, helped us with the new key system, arranged for a box breakfast on our departure day, helped us find the closest parking. Hotel very conveniently located. Rooms standard, but with nicer bedding than most. Very clean. Restaurant buffet excellent for breakfast. the rooms were of a good size with great bathrooms and a powerful hair drier. there was a tea and coffee machine in the lobby which was great when coming back from a day out in the cold. Although we had a room on the top floor with a view, it was very small and lacked the "sitting area" referred to in the web description - I think this may just apply to rooms on the 9th floor. Nothing in Norway is cheap - and although described as "budget" it was far more expensive than similar hotels in other European countries. The bed was quite soft and considering the Polar days, some light-proof curtains would definitely help. no bath :( no refreshement facilities in the room :(. The locking mechanism on the bedroom doors. The restaurant would not let me bring my beer to my room when the guy at the booth beside me was making me very uncomfortable. I ended up leaving my full beer on my table so I could get away from the man. There was no view from the windows other than of the hotel roof !. Nothing to dislike. shower clean and practical but looking a bit dated. Lack of storage space and small bathroom, but not deal killers. did not find anything we did not like. The eighteen steps with no lift access from the actual second floor to our "second floor" bedroom - not clever for septugenarians carrying their own luggage - but the bruises are fading! The lack of any tea/coffee making facilites axcept at reception. Ordinary English Breakfast tea for us sad English people in the drinks machine (there were lots of us there!). The single beds were far too small and soft. The room had very poor wifi connectivity and the bathroom tiles were loose. A bit of a disappointment in an otherwise really well kept hotel. No cupboard in room - cannot unpack clothes and when staying for 4 days, need to unpack. Room tended to be cold - could not turn up air-conditioner. Breakfast is expensive. Coffee tastes terrible No kettle in room for boiling water. Only problem was difficulty in regulating the room temperature....switches did not always seem to have an effect, or the system would switch off entirely. The rooms at the back of the hotel overlook Tromsø's main street, and on Friday and Saturday nights, there is a lot of noise from the bars and clubs. The in-house restaurant ("Egon") provided a good buffet breakfast, but the service in the evenings was very poor. Rooms really need to be refreshed. We had holes in the wall, lots of black stripes everywhere and some pieces of plumbing missing or broken in the bathroom! As we have another reservation in this hotel in a few days i strongly hope to get a room in a better shape!. Room was not very cosy. That it is not very Soundproof especially when you have young people partying when they come home from clubs. no team making facilities in room. Expensive for what you get ! But that's norway in general , it's a great country but ... Really , I thought Paris ,london,Tokyo, was expensive but Jesus !!! Wait till you arrive in norway .
