I stayed in 2 twin bed room # 240, with en-suite shower and toilet. The
shower and toilet room have a window. The floor plan of this hostel is
the best. There are 4 rooms in 1 floor. These rooms are circled a large
living room and a kitchen w/ 2 refridgerators. It looks like a
community housing. Staff kept every room very clean. It was next to the
Food Court w/very tasty and cheap Thai food. It is also very
convenient to the Bus terminals and the ferry. all reviews »
It was great for us close to what we needed friendly helpfull ,its cheap so don't expect 5 star and you'll have a great time rooms got plenty of space to move ,just ask for anything and you will get help .would stay again.
Response by staff to needs for extra blankets, broken cup, lack of fork and broken microwave. All brought to us as soon as we told the staff about them.
Big room, nice tv and stereo, friendly staff, very cheap and close to Vector arena and short walk to queen street. Kitchenette in the room very neat.

Place was cosy. Location good.
Good location, ca. 5-10 min. walk to City and major transport hub (train, bus, ferry) at Britomart. Little kitchenette in the apartment (cooking facility, fridge, etc.). Relative large room consited of the following areas: double bed, seating sofa, table in the kitchenette, ensuite sower with toilet.

4. The Backpackers' kitchen and lounge plus the view from the terrace (I only knew it existed on my last (4th) day, which was a bit late - see comments in other box).
My family enjoyed our stay would recomment for those those that like an affordable accommodation in the city.
Room rates are affordable and spacious conditions .. All equipment available and can cook if you want.
While beds are small they are very comfortable. Good location and good price. Would stay here again.

I liked the price I paid, $236 for 4 nights. We got room 103. Staff were friendly and great with our 1am check in. Beds were so comfy and we had a ipod dock in our room. Cheap asian take away next door. Dairy accross road. Internet 3 doors down. 5-10 mins walk to Harbour or Queen st. Or buses always running.

1) The hostel has no recycle bins.I Had to collect the recycled items
on Floor # 4 and carried them to the city recycle bins @ the
Britomate Transit Center.
2) The public computer ($3/hour) was not working.
Draughty windows and noise outside in the night.
Soft furnishings are a bit threadbare.
Unit 102 was a bit noisy and very faded curtains so no ability to make
the room dark.
not a nice view, it's facing another building hence curtains need to be drawn at all times otherwise your neighbour can easily see what you're doing. bathroom is quite small.
It is not that easy to find if you are unfamiliar with the location especially at night.

The building is SLOWLY being refurbished, this needs to be a quicker process as towel rails coming away from walls / mould on walls in bathroom are not the most inviting...
No soap provided for washing hands.
The shower could have been a lot cleaner and the towel rack was not fully attached to the wall. The toweks fell on the toilet floor.

Expensive internet connection. Internet connection was quite often broken in spite of the high price we paid. Bathroom could have been more clean. Noisy room overlooking to Anzac avenue. Kitchenette was not well equipped, just a very few plates and cutlery.
1. My room was at the back of the building - I looked at walls/into
the rooms of other buildings.
2.There was no sun and little natural light in my room.
3. The shower/toilet were very shabby.
4. The cooking facilities were poor and the electrical configuration looked very dodgy.
5. The TV had poor reception.
The kitchenette facilities needs more utensils to suit all cooking styles.
No free wifi. Wifi does not include room rate and must be paid separately. This hostel wifi needs to be improved because of the relatively slowly.
Our room was not ready for us at 3pm but did not take too long. reception area has strange small but not that offensive.

pretty decrepid, cracked vanity,peeling paint everywhere, cigarette burns on blankets, not even soap provided for hand basin (or shower).
pillows, poor lighting and no bedside light, noisy, dis-repair of 306--counter burned, part missing, cutlery and glassware dirty, towel rack falling off the wall, noisy and smell of wok cooking.
Room was very hot and humid. Airconditioning or at least an electric fan would have been appreciated. We did not receive towels when checking in and had to ask a few times to receive them.
the room was block by other building and you cannot see the city view.
Matress were in very poor conditions, kitchen was functional but very run down. The only place where people could relax and catch up is right outside the bedrooms, for some who like to go to bed earlier its not working.
Place was quite dirty and needed a good clean, we had a man come into our room who was about to rob us but my husband told him to get out of our room.
The guy at the reception was not nice. Paid $25 for WiFi for 4 days and
later I discovered I could only connect just one device and download
200mb per day!.
Dirty. Crumbs under microwave (which also was broken on arrival), microwave was very dirty inside. No toiletries. We asked for a double and got 3 single beds, but it was late so we just zipped 2 singles together and made a double ourselves. Elevator smelt horrible, reminded me of germs. Hair in bathroom. Smoke burn in Duvet. Not a bad place for short term. I would stay again.
The rooms were not clean. There was no towel or soap, and the shower
door did not work properly. The curtains were very thin and provided
little or no privacy from the apartment building next door, unless you
turned your lights out. It was very noisy.

The area is right next to a place which houses people who have just been released from jail. Area is really dodgy, not just through that alone. Had to go out and meet my girlfriend when she finished work each night to walk her home.

the room needed a good clean with attention to detail especially the kitchen area, drawers and crockery. not as on the website pic. shower handle fell off all the time. plug loose for microwave. drawing on walls. floors needed a good steam clean.
First room had faulty electrics. 2Nd room a blocked kitchen sink so we
were relocated to a 3d room. No apologies from the guy in charge. All he
said it never happened before. Cta is a joke!.
the tap in the kitchen was broken, the door on the shower was broken, the paint work was horrible, there were burn marks on the blanket, the curtains were horrible. A really tacky room, the plates and cups in the kitchen didnt match, there was no soap, there was no face cloth.
The fridge was broken. So was the toilet. Mold in the shower walls were thin which made for a lot of noise during the night.
