As we were arriving the front desk staff (I think the owners) let us know that outside we could currently see the northern lights. From the field right there they were visible, they then suggested a place to drive to (about 10 minutes away) to escape the light pollution of Selfoss and see them even better.   We stayed in one of the rooms in the annexe which are really small cabins. The room was clean and comfortable with a small balcony where you could sit outside.   The guesthouse was incredible!! We loved the location. It is situated in a very nice neighborhood that is conveniently located a block from the pool facilities. And the pool recreation center was incredible after spending the day hiking! The owners were wonderful to deal with, very helpful and accommodating.   Room was enormous. Hotel seems to be mostly used by bus tour groups. We ate late to avoid the crowds, though had to ask for some food to be re-stocked.   We went to this Hotel in Jun 2013 as a young couple and really liked the Hotel. The location is stunning, remote but right next to Golden Circle attractions and close enough to Reykjavik. The landscape is truly unique, one site of the Hotel faces a thermal energy plant, which bugged me at first, but after a while I found it fascinating to observe ... what people say » the steam being blown by the wind. The other site of the Hotel faces the lake in remote distance, so you get panoramic 'postcard views'. The Hotel has - The Ion is uniquely located next to a geothermal plant that billows steam and discharges hot water into an adjacent lagoon 24/7. Ordinarily, this would not be an attractive neighbor for a luxury hotel. However, the clean, modernist industrial design of the hotel is complemented by the adjacent plant.   This was the best place we have booked in our 7 nights in Iceland. The landlord was funny and he prepared a very good breakfast with waffles and fish based food.He was a nice company.   My dad and I visited Iceland in October of 2006. We'd originally intended to just drive through the country and find accommodations when we felt like we needed them. It quicky became apparent that wasn't going to work. We needed a "home bas" and Dad was adamant that he didn't want to stay in Reykiavik so we journeyed out a bit. I can tell you how... what people say » we got to this town but we pulled into the local hotel. They were expensive and full but gave us the name of this place and another. When we arrive - The location was a 5 minute walk to the restaurants, and away from any noise. The price was very reasonable for the 3-bed self-contained apartment. Breakfast cost extra, but was generous and had a good variety. Wi-fi was included and worked very well. The apartment was comfortable and spacious - good size bathroom, lounge, dining, kitchenett and bedroom. The lady was very lovely and helpful. There was on-site parking. I highly recommend this for a relaxing stay.

  Very tastefully decorated guesthouse with a cosy room (including a sink). The breakfast offered very good choice with good coffee and tasty Skyr. The bathroom was shared with one other room which wasn’t an issue – having a sink in the bedroom reduces the need for the bathroom. The owner was very friendly and we had a great game of ball with her Ice - This is a fabulous guesthouse. The owner could not do enough for us including booking restaurants and giving advice about activities in the area. The guesthouse was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. We would highly recommend the Fagrahlid Guesthouse. Its proximity to the Eyjafjallajokull volcano and to the south coast sights is great.

  We stayed at the Hotel Vestmannaeyjar for 3 days and it was absolutely amazing! First of all we had booked a basic double bedroom but we soon found out that the owners had given us one of the suites, as it was available. Moreover, the owners were lovely and helpful people! From day-1 both they gave us excellent hints about what to see, where to go... what people say » , what was opened in this season... They were also very kind to help us book a car. This hotel was WONDERFUL and really made our stay on the island ev - This is our second stay at Hotel Vestmannaeyjar in two years and we hope to go back again. The owner, Magnus, is such a nice person. He keeps us coming back along with the fact that we love Heimaey.
