Upon arrival the owner, Remy, had the curtesy not only to inform us that there was secure parking available for a very reasonable price, but he also parked it for us and brought the car back to us the day we left! The staff is extremely courteous and helpful. We had a very large, very quiet room on the 3. floor, and an excellent bed. We overslept breakfast! The kitchen was well equipped and everything was very clean. The stairs did not bother us as this is a very old building with a beautiful s.
all reviews » We had a wonder ful a few days in Bordeaux staying at Chambre en Ville. The location is perfect: right in the city centre but in a small street, so it is quiet. If you like the Marais district in Paris, you will love this place. Our room was very spacious, with a hallway entrance and separate bathroom and toilet. Very comfortable! And it was ony one of the Junior Suites! The owner was very helpful and loves sharing his knowledge of the city. There is a private garage where you can park your car. Chambre en Ville is ideally located to take advantage of the many attractions of Bordeaux. Not far from Place Gambetta, it is convenient to the best shops, attractions, and restaurants. We stayed in La Grande Suite and had a comfortable sitting area as well as two bedrooms, convenient for families or friends traveling together. The rooms were clean and the en suite shower was nicely updated. There was little noise from the street as well, a plus for being so close to the center of town. We booked this hotel the morning of our actual stay, and requested private parking. Check in was 11.30am which was a bonus, as we arrived soon after this time. The owner was extremely helpful with our luggage and parking. We booked a suite for 4 people (only was the 2 of us), and the large open space was wonderful, as was the price of €129 per night. Included a fridge, tea & coffee, lounge area, 2 bed rooms - one King Size. Very good location, two and half blocks from the cathedral. Very clean and spacious room. The young lady at the reception desk located just across the narrow street from our apt was very helpful. Our shower wasn't working and there wasn't any other big suite available to move us to, so she gave us one small room free of charge and told us to use everything in the fridge also for free as a compensation for the shower problem. Great location, great shops around the hotel, really good restaurants to walk to, and to walk to Cathedral and some amazing architecture and the river. Be advised that during the week the place shuts down after 7 pm. Road noise. Although we were warned by the owner that this was an issue they had. But, foam ear plugs were supplied for everyone. First time we have ever come across ear plugs being supplied for sleeping, and many hotels have this road noise problem!! So problem solved. The street can be noisy during the night but the hotel offers earplugs. The breakfast is basicaly croissants, yogurt, cheese and jams. Delicious but very basic. The stairs at the building across the street from the reception desk are narrow and steep. Not for people with limited mobility. The stone stairs up 3 flights...my bad though as I wasn't aware. I am 63, but my kids didn't mind. The flush didn't work. We were told the next day there was a knack to it but he was getting it fixed anyway. Not suitable for someone with limited mobility- steep stairs. There was no lift and we were at the top so had to leave the pram down stairs - but we didnt mind as the staircase added to the uniqueness of the place. Noise from the street at night, in particular youngsters talking and shouting. Put your earplugs!. no lift. We found nothing to dislike. pillows!. It was noisy at 2.00am every night as the street seemed to be used a lot when nearby bars closed. The provision of ear plugs by the bed should have been a clue!. I would have liked extra toiletries under the bathroom sink. Everything else was great. No air conditioning. Nothing. Similar food catered for the tourists. Parking on the street sucks!! Pay the extra 15 euros per night for the garage parking!. fire place wasn't in use. Large air con unit was noisy and too up space. If you are in the top rooms there are three flights of stairs to climb every time you go in and out. A formerly grand(ish) guest house but with original charm let down by inclusion of some tired, odd and/or tasteless fittings and furnishings (eg lino loo floors, purple fluffy carpet and an ugly 100 decibel aircon unit). Bear in mind the reception closes at 7pm, not 11pm as advertised and make sure to email ahead if you think you might be late for the door entry code. Also not great for those with heavy luggage as there’s no lift. No lift, pillows and bed not the most comfortable. we have four persons, two of us have a room, another two have to sleep at the saloon.....they don't describe it. Extractor fans in bathroom and toilet were not working. This hotel is one step above being a dump. The building has a lot of character, but is poorly maintained. The walls are dirty and the carpets need to be replaced. The towels were stained and worn. There were only two small drawers in the entire room. If you care about esthetic this is not a place for you. I would have been fine with this hotel when I was just out of college. At 50, I prefer to stay someplace that doesn't feel like a gloried hostile. . The hotel advertises that rooms have airconditioning, which they do not. We chose specificailly this hotel due to the supposed airconditioning in the rooms,- the weather was very warm. This is simply not acceptable!!.
