I loved the design. The authentic feel of the historic premises was truly captivating. The design of the hotel is superb, blending old with new in an absolutely perfect way. The staff were very helpful, professional, warm and friendly, and dressed in traditional Chinese clothing. One could get to know them all by name, and they are all wonderful. all reviews » Very helpful friendly staff and a very spacious, well appointed room. Lovely breakfasts and not too far from the central tourist attractions. The Hu-tong location gives you a real flavour of the old pre-modernised Beijing. A great place to stay and I would definitely recommend. I loved the authentic hutong atmosphere and all of the incredible little touches that make the decor so compelling. The staff are unfailingly friendly and helpful and you will have most of the conveniences of a much larger luxury hotel in a much more interesting location. Location in the Hutong area, wonderful English speaking staff, free delicious western breakfast (with dumplings for some eastern flair), cool courtyard and rooftop, very ethnic feel and fantastic service, made our whole trip to Beijing great. Narrow Hu-tong access made it difficult to get taxis to the hotel which may prove a problem for some. When I arrived it had been raining for a few days. Because of this, there was some mold in the room. I was able to get rid of this using a bleach wipe, but I would rather have not had to. Bathroom was maybe a little small and smelled a little like sulfur even though it was very clean, neighbors can hear you if you're loud and keep the windows open because all windows open to the courtyard. There's nothing that I didn't like, but I think travelers should be aware that the hotel is located on a hutong with all that this means. The few critical reviews I saw were by people ignorant about this it seems... Oh my, you had to walk five minutes to try to catch a taxi. The shame of it! Seriously, that's a ridiculous complaint if you're staying here. If you do not speak a word of Chinese, will be hard to find. Taxi drivers refuse to drive into Hutong. - I suggest to improve breakfast with croissants and homemade cakes. - The location is central but is difficult to reach by taxi. 5Min walk in a small street in the price to pay to reach this quiet area if the cab driver doesn't know the street. Nothing, the stay was perfect. too difficult to find the place, without any sign... and the price is bit deal. Poor room lighting. A little difficult to find.
