Strathcona Hotel fitted our budget perfectly. The room was small but clean and comfortable. On our first night there was a problem with the hot water not being very hot and the staff went out of their way to make sure it was quickly fixed. Strathcona's location is perfect to access the sights of Downtown Victoria. The waterfront, quaint houseboats at Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown and shops are within easy walking distance to the hotel while other features on Vancouver Island are just a short bu.
all reviews » The hotel was beautiful, well done reno's, the lobby is gorgeous, we stayed in an older room with older t.v. and furnishings, but was everything we needed, we spent the only time in the room sleeping, so the bed was comfortable, clean and had free wi'fi, so I could post my pics on FB as we travelled, only thing I would request going forward, is coffee offered to guests that get up before 7:30 am, when breakfast is served, we are early risers, 7Eleven is 1/2 a block away, and was a nice walk in . My room was on the fifth floor with a view of the inner harbour. The room was small and comfortable with one bed, a small size tv and bath room. I liked the idea of liquid soap in the bathroom to eliminate waste.The pub was in a separate building but connected by a couple of doorways. Contrary to what I thought, the hotel was quiet and not noisy. The location is very central. I've already been to the hotel in December and came back with three friends to stay in Victoria for one night. For the price, it's perfect. We were a group of four and stayed in a double queen bed room which was enough for us. It's comfortable, well located, breakfast is included which is perfect and the parking lot is next to it. I can definitely recommend it. Everything: there was a radio (not all hotels provide that any more) and shampoo, conditioner, and lotion in the bathroom, as well as a soap dispenser for the wash basin (to save soap) and a hair drier. One has to mention the enormously varied cold breakfast (juices, fruits, cereals, toast, bagels, muffins) included with the remarkably inexpensive room rate. The location is perfect but only stayed a short overnight this time. There were a variety of options included in the complimentary continental breakfast, but if wheat is not to be in your diet, it's not for you. We'd stay again but would upgrade to a renovated room which I found out later, existed. Was able to find street parking overnight for a few dollars. The location is pretty good. It takes me within 5 minute-walk to visit Legislature Building, to take a bus to Butchart garden (Bus #75), a pacific coach to Vancouver, and within 15 minute-walk to a supermarket to buy foodstaffs. The room is clean but even all the lights are turned on, I feel it is still a little dark. Location and price. I also loved the classy historic architecture. It was a one-block walk to the lovely harbor in Victoria, and a one-block walk in almost any direction for food, shopping and sightseeing. One reasonable in-and-out all day parking fee and a nicer-than-most continental breakfast. The hotel was cozy and comfortable. Location was good and central to the malls, bus stops and harbour. Hassle free check in and check out. Rooms were cleaned daily and free breakfast was just what you need to start the day. Bagels, tea, coffee, muffins, cereals, toast. Would definitely go back. I liked the fact that it was right downtown, handy to shopping and many tourist destinations; that it was reasonable and had retained the old and updated with the new (bathrooms, etc) and the renovations were complete - no cracked ceilings and so forth. Free breakfast - it isn't much (mostly cereals and breads) but it's free and quick. TV gets decent amount of channels in room. Room - esp. bathroom - are very clean. The Strathcona Hotel offers excellent value for accommodation in the heart of the downtown area - five minutes walk to the harbour, museum and bus terminal (for ferry link to Vancouver). We expected it to be noisy but, in fact, was remarkably quiet. Continental breakfast was good. Excellent location near government offices for meetings. Very nice and helpful staff. Surprisingly nice breakfast but could have used a bit more fruit. Room overlooked beach volleyball courts which were loud in evening but not late. Didn't bother me. Old heritage feel to building. Location - Victoria is beautiful. The food at the Sticky Wicket Pub attached to the hotel was wonderful and it was a great place to hang out with friends. We were only 2 minutes away from the conference centre. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. -Only 10 minute walk from most tourist attractions and bus station (bus is an easy way to get on to a ferry and to Vancouver) - Even though right downtown, heard no nose from the street - Very freindly and helpful staff - Clean room and comfortable bed. Not our first stay, the staff have always been exceptionally pleasant and helpful, proactive and efficient whether on the front desk, in the rooms or the Sticky Wicket. We like the price, the Downtown, the breakfast and the beautiful historic building. The Strathcona is a great old hotel with a lot of history. You should enjoy that. It is perfectly located close to the waterfront, Parliament buildings and the downtown core. It is much more reasonably priced than some hotels that offer a lot less. close to everything we were interested in to shopping, the empress, the inner harbour which has a fair number of vendors selling things they have made on a Friday. the breakfast was good especially as it came free with the room. Lovely and clean. The staff were very friendly and approachable and the room and bathroom were very clean and comfortable. The free continental breakfast was a bonus - a great selection of food. Would have liked more fresh fruit but overall very happy here. We liked the friendly staff location and a good price also the restaurant where we had an excellent dinner. Then a good nights sleep. My only complaint: the room was too dark at night so that one had to squeeze under the bed light in order to read. The room was very old, bed way too soft ans very small. No coffee maker in the room. Cost for parking. The most inconvenient is that there is no extra electronic sockets for laptops or I-Phone to be charged in the room (only for TV). It is a little incredible for me to live in the room without extra sockets, especially at a digital age. Too warm. No air-conditioning in the rooms. Our room could hear the noise of the rooftop party. The rooftop restaurant looked like a nice feature but there was no elevator. (Well there was one for employees but they wouldn't let even a handicapped member of our party use it). I can't fault it for anything. Rooms are a bit smaller and nothing fancy - very basic bed. The bed is okay for comfort but nothing to write home about. Be aware if your room faces the patio bar it can get quite loud and esp. on weekends the nights are louder and late. No negatives at all. Bed was a bit spongy and bedding needs update. TV was small and old tube, but I wasn't there to watch TV. Towels were a little thin and didn't absorb water well. The hotel room did get muggy although you could crack the window - the only problem with this was at night the streets were quite loud even when we turned in at 1 or 2am. Room was a little snug but comfortable. There wasn't that many easily accessible plugs to plug in devices such as cell phones or laptops. - Please to have breakfast included in price, but hotel could have a few more "healthy options" included in the buffet. A fridge in the room would be nice.... Thin walls could hear people across the hall. Bathroom was a bit dark, when in the shower with the curtain closed felt a little closed in. If coming for a quiet weekend to Victoria, this is not it. Quite loud guests and club below - we didn't mind it but some people might be put off. Also, although free wifi was advertised, this was very poor quality, slow and did not work on tablets. Room was tiny and a bit dark, but generally clean and in decent repair. Might have been nice to be able to order a full breakfast. No fault of the hotel, but we stayed on the night of Feb. 25Th when there were gunshots at 1 am. And one block of Douglas was closed the next day. There is a pub on the ground floor and people were milling about in front of it when we arrived. At that point, we were not sure of our choice of this hotel. TV was a bit old lol. What's not to like?. An egg at breakfast would have msde it complete. Took a long time for the hot water to heat up. Felt bad wasting all that water!!. Lack of electrical access. Wifi in room was - 85 dbm and not usable. It would be nice to have a small bar in the facility where people could sit and talk and not be drowned out by loud music in the evening. First room was 55 a night 2 twins. It was cheap and I can see how a room like that would be great if u were just crashing for the night after partying downstairs. The picture online made it look nicer than it was. I moved into a 2 queen the next day and it was very nice and reasonable price. .Room lacking comfort..no chair or table..only a bed...tv small,no in room coffee,bath towel tiny, breakfast good in quantity but lacked variety ie. Only oranges and apples for fruit selection,bagels but no cream cheese...would have loved a boiled egg. The lack of air conditioning in the room was a surprise. Nothing really. The elevator is a bit slow. Can't think of anything!. Didn't have soap in the containers. 1st room bed felt like it had no springs, we sank into it and could not sleep. nothing. Small room, a desk would be nice! Room beside rooftop bar, always noise in the evening. quite old.
