The greeting we received when we arrived was very welcoming - this 'set the scene' for our experience of the hotel. We had hired a car for our exploration of the area, so were very glad that there was plenty of parking space. The room was spacious and very clean. It was a very easy walk to Menin Gate and to the town itself! We have been traveling around Europe for a month & stayed in many hotels - the Hotel Ariane was one of the best. This was our second stay at the Hotel Royal. We returned to it because we enjoyed our first stay so much. This is a little gem of a hotel that deserves more than the three stars it currently has; it is at least a three-plus if not a four star standard. Since our last stay they have made many improvements on what was already a very nice hotel.

From the moment we arrived the lady at reception was the most pleasant person you could wish to meet, even to the parking meter we were helped and offered for our luggage to be taken to the hotel.
