Thanks to Michelle and colleagues on the reception desk, our requests were always adhered to without fault and we were made to feel very welcome. The wonderful Derek who is one of the managers, enjoyed sharing with us the tales of the Carrington Hotel, past and present, entertaining us with a small guided tour of the interior. Robbie wh.
all reviews » I recently stayed at the Carrington with a sibling. Our grandparents had honeymooned there in the 1920s. The olde world charm, sense of history and beautiful architectural features are so impressive. Scrabble in the Billiard room, reading in the Library, hot chocolate in the Main Lounge in front of an open fire. The magnificent leadlight windows and original paintings only enhance the hotel's unique beauty. I personally would never stay anywhere else while in Katoomba. The huge buffet breakfast. The location was excellant and the hotel was very attractive, particularly the substantial lovely stained glass areas throughout. The garden out front was very well planted, including 2 lovely 'Star Wars' Magnolia when I was there. The room I stayed in was fitted out very pleasantly and the separate bath/toilet area that I had was clean and tidy. The continental breakfast was good so you didn't need to buy any lunch. The staff were helpful and friendly. well renovated heritage building & furnishings , including old photographs & memorabilia the variety of public rooms, including one with a (gas) fire a good standard of breakfast quiet comfortable rooms which are good value if you share the (comfortable & large) bathrooms caters for many guest types with a range of rooms, not just an exclusive boutique hotel well located in Katoomba town centre & close to railway station. An incredibly beautiful hotel, from the gardens, to the lighting of the front of the building at night, to lunch by the fireplace, to the historical displays throughout the building, to the spa bath, to the spacious rooms, to watching the sunrise and views of the mountains from the bedroom window, to the wonderful breakfast, to the friendly professional staff. I have recommended the Carrington Hotel to all my friends and family. I absolutely love the Carrington Hotel. My grandparents honeymooned there in the 1920s and it has SO much history. What is there not to be impressed by?The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We enjoyed playing billiards and sitting with hot chocolate in the main lounge infront of a open fire. Heritage building was fabulous. Room comfortable & evocative of a bygone era. Position was wonderful on crest of hill in township and most day walks within walking distance or bus. Train station close by for walks farther afield - we would definitely recommend Blackheath for the Grose Valley walking. Beautiful old fashioned hotel and decor, loved the grand traditional style esp the communal bathrooms. Lots of space so always able to find aquiet corner, nice bar, staff eager to ensure you enjoy your stay. Good buffet breakfast including fruit. The Carrington was just amazing, breakfast was great and included in the price, spa room and furniture was just beautiful. I highly recommend the Carrington. I wish we could have had dinner in the grand dining room but there was a wedding. Perhaps because this is my first solo-trip I find it difficult to draw any negatives from the stay. It was easy to find even without a map, the setting was beautiful, the interior even better, the atmosphere was great and the food was too. It was like stepping back in time, from the music to the decor to the smell of old wood. The hotel has been beautifully maintained and great detail has gone into retaining it's historic character. It is a step back in time to Katoomba History and the Staff were Frendly and I used to live on the Blue Moutains in 1965 1971 in park St Katoomba Licehart St Katoomba 1971 and 1972 went to Special School Leura and Katoomba. The grandeur of The Carrington, the old hotel experience, luxurious without being expensive. The staff were all very nice and accommodating, the room was wonderful, and the continental breakfast was the best we have had. Old world charming hotel kept to original old style. Very close to train station and in the main road of Katoomba. Very convenient to explore the attractions of the Blue Mountains. Free Wi Fi. Elegant old hotel. We were very surprised at the wonderful shared bathrooms! We thought there would only be one toilet and shower per couple of rooms or so We just loved the 1920s style of the whole place!. I like the Art Deco charm of the Carrington...the large stting rooms...it is situated right there on Katoomba Street and very close to the railway station. the reason is because feel so hommy with the heritage touch and very good to relax for me as young couple for honeymoon i would to come back again for sure. "Fresh" fruit at breakfast looked like it had been cut and prepared day before so it had dried out before serving. -. The Tv channals for Prime Tv Illawarra and win tv Wollongong were not working despite a Dish being at a Hotel I could only pick up Sydney Channals. The only elevator is vintage 1904 so small and unwieldy. Shower had adequate, but not great, pressure. Checkout time is 10 am, which is a bit early for such a grand hotel. At my request, the staff extended it to 11 am. Nothing!. It was a very hot humid weekend. Air conditioning would have been a normal expectation in a 21st century accommodation. Climate change is coming and the Carrington will have to move with it. Nothing it was perfect. Not related to hotel, but be warned that everything (restaurants, cafes, etc) close very early, especially if you are a traveller from southern Europe or Latin America!!. Nothing. I was not expecting a cooked breakfast would be at additional cost. Unable to have a nightcap as the bar was SHUT at 2115 hrs. Very noisy floor boards. nothing. nothing, love it all. Nothing. Didn't find anything to dislike. Nothing!. The light fitting in our room was totally out of character. The old style furniture and architecture did not go with the modern rail spot lights. Paid for a buffet breakfast, which turned out to be a continental breakfast. A cooked breakfast incurred an additional charge. Creaking floors is ok but the big wardrobe in the room shook quite violently and noisily eachtime we walked past. Had to ask for heating, staff were very accomadating upon that request & TV reception was not good not a major concern for me but may affect future guests. Nothing to add here - all perfect :). The view out of most windows was ordinary - not that you can do much about that. The blazing fire in the lounge didn't seem to put out much heat!. room wasn't warm enough when temperatures dropped below zero at night. I only had one night there. We came for the Writer's Festival and they didn't quite get their act together for the catering. The noisy person in the staff car park after midnight, on their motorbike. The bathrooms in the Traditional Wing may have been traditional, but one really required one's valet's assistance to reelly enjoy them. The shared bathrooms need a revamp. The character is good but peeling bathroom floors and cracked tiles are a bit too ancient. Overhead showers get all your head wet. Would have been nice to be able to walk out on the front balconies for the view, but guess these are reserved for the suites. Maybe the centre door area could be partitioned off.
