Brand new facilities, newly and very tastefully decorated, good kitchen equipment, outdoor patio, very well located by the lake and the town centre. The staff were so friendly and went to great efforts to make sure the cot was comfortable for our baby and even provided a hooded baby towel which was really useful. We strongly recommend staying here

As some of the others have said , it doesn't look very exciting from the outside but inside is a different story. The rooms (and we stayed in two different ones) are very nicely decorated and have some unexpected but very welcome extras These included , a small stereo system with an Ipod dock, free cookies (yum!), magazines to read and a separate freezer. The service was friendly and helpful.

To be honest, I was expecting a bit of a let-down with this place - not
sure why, just a feeling I had. Possibly the name?
In any case, it was completely the opposite - really happy with my stay at the Reef Resort.
We had a lake-view room for less than $200 on a very busy weekend, which I thought was pretty good value.

Friendliest host over the past 11 days in NZ, surprising given it's a sizeable establishment. Beautiful private-access to lake shore which has a natural thermal brook serenely bubbling away into the lake. They had some plumbing done the night we were there, and didn't have hot water from 9pm till 7am, and in kind recompense, upgraded us to the nicest room of our trip, with stunning panoramic lakefront views. We simply didn't want to leave the room at all!

The owners are really friendly and helpful. The location is great - just cross the road if you want a swim in the Lake. There are also plenty of eateries a few minutes drive away. I like the studio units with spa bath. Able to relax in the evening. close to the lake edge with a view of the lake from the balcony. Clean units with comfortable beds. Close to the shopping. Had everything we required for the one nights stay. Was lovely to wake up and go for a walk on the lakes front in the morning.

We could not arrive as scheduled due to a road blocking accident. Jacquie was understanding and allowed us to make the change without penalty. J. and staff were so helpful with information, breakfast, our luggage and dinner reservations at an excellent restaurant 5 minutes from the motel......highly recommended. -

Room very clean and well presented. Comfortable bed. Nice to have a semi-private outdoors seating area. This was a brief over-night stay so did not utilise any other facilities, but would definitely make this our 1st choice when staying in Taupo in future.

- Brand new, from floor to ceiling, AC ... Everything a motel lover may need is here. Special thumbs up to the bed quality to crash into, as long as the little private terrasse for groundfloor rooms, like ours.

Loved the friendly owners, the lovely room with a private back years
small enclave to sit and have a morning coffee or a drink after tramping
around all day. The spa tub was a wonderful soak after being on
one's feet all day. Also, Murray was kind enough to drive us to the
bus depot the necpxt day thus saving us a walk or a taxi fare. How nice

The unit was very clean and comfortable, and most importantly for us 'soft' Aucklanders, it was WARM!! (It was minus 2 deg overnight and we didn't feel cold at all.) Second year in a row that we have stayed there, easy to access restaurants, shops, and the skifield is an easy scenic drive from Taupo.

The service was superb. The owner is extremely friendly and made us feel so welcome and comfortable. We knew we would arrive late and the owner made arrangements to make our check in easy. I did not feel at all as if I was an inconvenience due to my late arrival. The motel is a basic motel, but the friendliness of the staff make the experience far

Motel is position well for an early morning walk by the lake &
the courtesy bus is a good idea as the motel is a few ks from the center.

Would like to stay again in the summer to make good use of the outdoor BBQ and out door furniture and watch the sun go down and hopefully watch a loverly sunset with my wife whilst enjoying a botle of wine.
