The perfect base for a relaxing break in the South Wales Valleys, this country inn is set between the Forest of Dean and the Brecon Beacons.
Refurbished in 2008, the hotel displays levels of charm and character befitting such an establishment.
Easily accessible, the Rat Trap Hotel is just 6 miles (9.6 km) from junction 24 of the M4 and only 10 minutes’ drive from Newport.
The lounge bar and à la carte menus offer good-quality cuisine, using fresh, local Welsh produce.

Warm welcoming atmosphere, recently refurbished rooms to high standard, free wi-fi worked well, hotel contacted me to explain, as I was arriving late that the restaurant closed at 9 but they could do me sandwiches if i needed food after 9. Friendly atmosphere, especially for the business traveller. Excellent food. Lovely location on a quiet road. This was my third stay, and would recommend to anyone.所有 评语 »

Good meal at a reasonable price. Excellent value.lovely staff - helpful and friendly. Great chef...food was very good indeed. Food excellent; bed really comfortable; host delightful. Great atmosphere, helpful staff,. plenty of parking,. difficult to find in the dark late at night, neither postcode nor address worked on my Tom Tom, maybe they sould give GPS position. The hotel is about a mile and a half walk from the hotel. Only a problem if you're lazi or too tight for a taxi!. The young female receptionist was not particularly friendly. She was rather frosty and could do with smiling. The beautiful room was spoilt a little by a worn out mattress that you could feel the springs through; a good quality replacement and the comfort would score excellent. The room was a bit small. There was no hair dryer as advertised, but I didn't actually need one. Some of the cheap bedroom furniture - chests of drawers, dressing tables etc need to go as up market as the lovely soft furnishings. The restaurant needs to tighten its standards a little.Food was disappointing. not kingsize beds (I'm 6"5') and a poor matress which I reported and was assured it would be changed.bedroom on main road so quite noisy during night. The mattress was in need of replacement: we felt the springs of the mattress poking in our backs. No half bottle of wines available on menu. The room was freezing cold when we booked in although the room had been allocated to us. Had to leave the heating on full while we went out to a wedding reception at the 3 Salmons Hotel. The contractors dealing with the re-furbishment of the hotel, left a number of minor flaws in our room, which will magnify. Pity. Food in restaurant poor for price.just small things....no handwash in room to wash hands, faulty toilet seat - kept falling off however when reported action was going to be taken. The most uncomfotable bed I have ever slept in. Evening meal on the second night was let down by poor service, we were told it was due to a new chef on his first night! I hope this was a one off as the first evening was excelent.too noisey,-disturbed sleep.
