The hotel has recently been taken over by new management. They are working extremely hard to get the place back to a reasonable condition, with success. The bar area is comfortable, and the beer is good! My room was basic, but clean and had all that you need. Breakfast was booked on arrival and was very good, especially for £5. At the end of the day, whilst a big budget to spend on refurbishment would no doubt help, the basics are there, and if you expect more, I ask the question - what do you .

New comfortable bed. New lavatory and wash basin. Room, bedding and ensiute very clean. Plenty of heat from electric radiator. My case was carried up to my room by hotel staff. Freeview TV with built in DVD player. Easy access at any time of day or night. Price.
Staff were very helpful. Bed exceptionally comfortable. Good hearty breakfast. Cleanliness to standard. But bear in mind it is not the Ritz and they don't charge you for it. Thoroughly good value.
Good sized room comfortable bed. Stayed midweek so street outside quiet. To all those miseries who complain what do you honestly expect for £25.
Room was large and had ensuite.Quiet in relation to the other guests.

- Cheap!! - Very central location only a 5 mins walk to the train station and 1 mins to the town centre - Staff are friendly, even showed you to your room this time, obviously management are turning things around - Free Parking - En suite room!.

The room was comfortable Charmaine, Andy and Damien were very welcoming and helpful. Charmaine in particular who looked after me very well and warmly. She does her job very well.

Very cheap, easy to get to, free WiFi, free parking and despite our first impressions (it is next to a night club) it was very quiet. The bed was also very comfortable, and the room was a decent size.
It could be a fantastic hotel in time as I believe the staff and owner want to make it a great place to stay. With some investment into the rooms this could be a fantastic boutique hotel!.
The location to the town was good and the rooms were reaonably clean albeit a little tired decor-wise. It did however have a television and a couple of settees.

I stayed at this hotel 20 years ago, it was at that time first class and was at that time to be recommended. The present owners/managers have no idea what a hotel actually does to deliver proper standards to its customers.
Sadly not much the room was warm and the water was hot.
The location was ok.
Food in the evenings is currently not available, but I was told that they are planning on doing a bar snack menu in the not too distant future.
Booked 4 nights but was only down for one night on arrival. (Admittedly soon sorted) One pane of glass missing from window, badly covered. No waste bin. No replacement toilet rolls provided. Wardrobe door about to fall off. Headboard coming away from wall. Repair to door frame not painted. Room was not serviced at all through out stay. Corridor areas in poor condition, water through roof, huge cracks and so forth.
The impression from other reviewers that I was going to down town Damascus. For £25 there was little to dislike when everywhere else is £30 dearer.
My room was at the front and it was a saturday night so lots of noise from the rowdy street.

- Couldn't regulate the temperature of the shower, it was either scalding hot or freezing cold - Only one roll of toilet paper provided for a weeks stay, needed to go down and ask for more (took three requests to get more than one!).
Shabby sofas in dining room - but the price was reasonable, so I am not complaining.
Bath was dirty - I had to clean it before using..the carpet was dirty and dusty.
Noisy every night with drinkers from the pub until midnight. Left one night early in the end. Not set up to make everything easy: did not take credit cards but required cash on arrival; did not advise us on arrival we had to book breakfast the night before; forgot to supply the bedding for the fifth bed on the couch. In need of renovation, with one of the entry door locks and the bathroom light not working properly.
Having to walk around drunks in the bar on arrival, music cranked up to the max for the drunks. Hotel has obviously seen better times judging by the run down appearance.
The fabric of the pub was 'well worn' although the rooms were fairly clean and functional.
Having booked breakfast for the Sunday morning at 8.00, there were no staff around. Waiting till 8.20, I left the keys and departed.
The beds were very uncomftable the bathroom makes a loud whistle noise every couple of hours, we were not informed that the hotel turns in to a night club playing loud music till 2 in the morning on a saturday night resulting in a very restless night.

It was noisy on the Saturday night with people on a night out. It was generally run down and the restaurant was closed.
Hotel needs total refurbishment, very run down and dated, no more than I expected at that price. Also the hotel had not received my booking from letsbookhotel.com.
Music playing really really load and people screaming till 2am. No chance of sleeping at all. Curtains in room only partly covering windows so everybody in the smoking area could see into our room. Could not shower due to lack of privacy.
wireless did not work in my room a long way from the reception shower would have flooded the bathroom as there was no shower door over the bath and just the shower head form the taps hooked on the back wall. no lights working in corridors on arrival, TV in room is an extra £10.
No hot water in shower or basin. On leaving I noticed lots of water on basement floor so possible plumbing problems.
It wasn't very clean at all and the whole building in in poor condition. Our bathroom floor was visibly muddy and grimy when we arrived. There was no soap at all. The kettle was dirty. It was unclear who was in charge.

The staff tried to charge more than the letsbookhotel.com price. You can't say the 2 bedroomed apartment has a kitchenette. It had no sink and no fridge, just a microwave and a few pots.

Apartment was dated and required redecoration. Having a two year old an apartment with stairs wasn't ideal. TV not working. Breakfast they had ran out of sausages and had egg shell in the fried egg. Party that was held at the same venue was loud and could be heard all night till the early hours of the morning. :-(.
The building was outraged, the room smelt damp, there was no fridge as advised, there were no little bottles of shampoo,soap etc, and cupboards were full of hotel rubbish.
The stairs are DESPERATE for a hoover. The towels are old and 'grey'. The music blared outside until 11pm on a Sunday. An early night was impossible for a very early start.

room was not cleaned,had to ask for room to be acceptable. very poor standard of maintenance,our door was fit for the tip.not able to open the window for fresh air.carpet was dirty and very stained.l.
Where do I start? When staying away from home, all I look for, is clean, basic, well priced accomodation. Price was good, but the rest was bad. Had it not been for the fact that the bed linnen was clean & crisp, I would have left within minutes. This property is well run down, and the fact that I was asked to pay cash, instead of a debit card, rings alarm bells. I won't add any more, as I think you can guess the rest. My advice, is stay away!.
Too noisy,dirty carpets,shower room dirty, decor tired, room door had been burst open splintered wood visible, a fight broke out a 3 a.m. Water gurgling up the shower plug hole . Breakfast room not well set up for self service no glasses for juice no hot water for tea, coffee no cups milk set out in plastic bottle and juice in a carton.
had booked to stay in annex but on arrival was told it was unavailable and would have to use two rooms not a problem until we were charged more money for this.i understood that once a booking is made at a price then regardless of the issue the price is honoured????????? slept on springs sticking out of the matress for the first hour then ended up on the floor which in fact was more comfortable.
Too expensive, TV not working and hotel had just been taken on by new management and not everything was up to a high standard or working properly.
The place was so dirty!! Covered in dust!!! It is not hard to run a cloth over the place!!! No hangers in the wardrobe The shower did not work Staff acted as if they didn't want to be there, not once was I asked if everything was ok!! I would only stay here again as I its cheap and convenient for the work!! Not worth £45 for a twin room!! I would advise you to pay a little extra for a travel in or similar!.

Everything else! Where do I start?!.... Extremely loud music (shook the room it was so loud, and on til very late) Hardly any loo roll Mouldy tea bag in teapot! Most likely still there now.... No milk Broken door not very secure! Only one curtain per window and they didn't even fit! Grotty, scum hole! Avoid!!! We were in the bridal suite the most expensive room, if that was this bad......good god what are the others like!!?!.

Everything, no one cleaned my room for the whole week , the pictures from Internet are not of this hotel , no facilities in the room which supposed to be there e. g. No tv, fridge , not even kettle, I am very dissatisfied , could't cancel as they charge you the fee for the whole stay.

Reservation confirmed through letsbookhotel.com was "lost". Administration very poor. In the end we could not be accommodated. A putty, because the building is very nice, in a good location, very reasonably priced, (too reasonably?). Just badly managed.
Abysmal standards in all areas both public and room. Unable to provide me with a printed invoice. Room : No Hot water, No shower, No teaspoon, Room not serviced daily. Not acceptably clean, carpets not hoovered, dust everwhere and wholly unaceptable in all areas. Windows absolutely filthy. I choose to eat elsewhere. Never even consider this hotel as worthy of providing adequate hospitiality.
The room was shabby boardering on dirty there were no complemnentry shower gells no biscuits or any welcoming gestures the breakfast was extra although plentifull there was no choice and it was over cooked this was the worst hotel we have stayed in so far.
No heating in room, but a 2kw plug in heater. No hot water (and they knew this but didnt tell us until we complained the next day) No shower curtain in carpeted room. Disgusting and dirty.
