I visited The Swingate with my elderly father. The member of staff who greeted us was very friendly and welcoming. He showed us to our rooms, and then carried our bags from the car. The rooms were very spacious, clean and bright. There was plenty of hot water, towels and complimentary toiletries. Breakfast was cooked to order, which meant there was a slight delay but this is a small price to pay for freshly cooked and hot food, it was all delicious. The breakfast menu had plenty of choice.

I do not do Chillies (allergy) but the food in the attached Indian Restaurant was absolutely fantastic and the service was just brilliant. I will stay again !. Friendly welcome. Nice to feel like a person unlike some hotels. Our evening meal was very good having been prepared on request. Room was comfortable and warm enough. We did not have time to enjoy a full breakfast but what we did have was freshly prepared. our welcome was really friendly, the evening meal was very good, the room was clean, the breakfast was excellent. we could not find any fault and will be contacting the swingate inn saying how pleased we were with our stay. Staff very friendly. Hotel clean and comfy. Food good especially breakfast. Ideal break in journey before going on to Brussels and on return before going back to Manchester. Was able to leave car there over weekend. The hotel was every thing we needed the food was excelent as were the staff one memeber even went as far as to check which car park we would be useing to get to our cruise ship. The hotel is about 5 minutes from the terminal, so was perfect for what we wanted. The room was adequate and practical, though a bit dated. Also if you want dinner, the burger is fab!. Easy parking; excellent breakfast, nice pub, friendly atmosphere; ample supplies of tea, coffee and biscuits; helpful staff. TV in room works; alarm clock supplied. A tired building with evidence of some reformation taking place, but ideally situated for the ferry. NOTHING. nothing. Bar and Restaurant closed Bank Holiday Monday. (very strange). Nothing. Nothing to dislike. Enter suites a bit tired and need of some talc. Bed a bit harder than i like. The bed could have been more comfortable, it was very creaky. The furnishings were pretty dated in the bedrooms.The bathroom needed an overhaul in general. Traffic noise all night and only one pillow each, probably should have checked before staff went home, so that could be my fault. The room was clean but the decor was poor. The shower was small and poor water pressure, the wash hand basin taps would not turn off completely. The TV is a small flat screen which was adequate but fitted flat to wall thus giving poor visual positioning. Nothing but diversion in the early morning to ferry port very long, should have driven down the 258 if only i'd known. was ok what we expected for the price. No dislikes. Only one negative. No hot water when we left at 6.15 A.M. no hot water!. Nothing. Strong smell of curry in the hotel. Constant overnight traffic noise. Nothing. Strange, somewhat awkward separation between accommodation and public area, with reception not always accessible (early in the morning for instance). Room comfortable but bathroom rather shabby (towel rail loose; shower hose bent and difficult to aim; toilet flush very slow to refill; in need of redecoration). No phone in room and one bedside table without bulb. Not much wrong; maybe a little overpriced. In general, Dover is a dump. Few problems here. Some noise from adjacent rooms. Far too hot, so we opened the window. Reception not open at 08.00, we waited as long as we could but in the end we put the key through the letter box as we had a ferry to catch. Good thing we did not book breakfast for 08.00. Hotel needas sprucing up a bit. very basic. Uncomfortable beds, noisy central heating. We had two rooms and only stayed one night but the beds were very uncomfortable, and considering that is what you are paying for, it was not good. room quite basic but adequate shower not very powerful. Food (meringue was unrecognisable, cream was enedible). Noise in room from Central Heating. The region lacks any tourist sparkle. Rooms wer a bit tired and fittings old and weary not enough towels provided for two people. rooms were shabby and in need of an update. Food was quite expensive and not very good. Food, dead flowers in vases on landing, no breakfast until 08:00 am, not good enough when wanting an early start. Our hotel in France began serving at 05;30 am.! Position of TV made it unwatchable especially from the bed. no food high bar prices. I did not have breakfast and they have charged the breakfast from my card...before charging the customer they should investigate whether the customer had meal or not... noisy water system rodents running around in attic small windows-very clostrophobic. Very small bed. Needs refurbishing. Change carpet. No hot water at 7.30am. Poor breakfast. Not good value for money. How did it get a rosette, and four stars very disappointing.
