The staff were very helpful, the building magnificent and for our purpose attending a family wedding in an ideal location. Our son who is 21 also enjoyed the Ashby night life within easy walking distance. Comfortable beds in a well-furnished room. Evening dinner well presented, looked appetising and was most enjoyable. Room very quiet despite overlooking main road. Easy parking. Helpful friendly staff.

We enjoyed our stay here the staff are friendly and helpful and the room was very comfortable and in keeping with the hotel.Excellent had a great stay. I liked that staff were helpful to find a spare heater for my room which was hard to warm up. Food was amazing when it finally arrived. Liked the location, very handy. Food was very good though menu a bit limited we thought. Beds were comfortable and clean. The Royal is always clean and comfortable with very friendly helpful staff. The food is 1st class as well. Staff excellent, atmosphere friendly and relaxed, great breakfast, good coffee and beer. The charming old building, the staff, the attention to detail, the size of the rooms. Friendly and efficient. Good choice at breakfast. Good sized room. The hotel room was not modern but kept to the charm of the building!. Staff were amazing! Food was tasty, and service was exceptional. Staff couldn't have done more. Bar food and real ale top notch. This hotel was a convenient stopover on our way to Southampton. Comfortable surroundings. Loved the fan in the bedroom. Charming hotel, real old English style, good breakfast. Value for money and friendly, courteous staff. every thing the staff were excellant . Wbates. Friendly relaxed atmosphere. It was good for us to return to the hotel where we celebrated our golden wedding (5 years ago) and to be on familiar territory where we had both lived our growing years. Public areas nicely decorated and comfortable. Easy access and parking Great central location. Good bar facilities. Staff were exceptional apart from a person on reception. Hotel very close to the main area of Ashby. staff were lovely. The food was first class. Very very close to ashby centre so easy to walk. The room was below standered and the pcitures on letsbookhotel.com was not the room i stayed in. Will be letting my company know not to use. The location close to town and breakfast was ok although we had to go to reception to ask for coffee to be served!. Amazing breakfast. lovely town with great castle. the peace and tranquility. Convenience to town. Breakfast is good. The only redeeming feature of staying here was Dorothy who served me breakfast. She could actually chat and took some interest in being there - unlike her colleagues!. Nothing. I felt the decor was a little 'tired' and perhaps in need of an update. We arrived a little before 2.00 p.m. but were unable to even get a sandwich we had to go to the garage opposite and buy one in the shop a little disappointing. Breakfast wasn't properly hot. Stairs to climb - no lift (A shortcoming rather than a criticism). Coffee in room tasted dreadful - but this is common to all hotels! (It was quite OK at breakfast). slow service for dinner - bathroom window was jammed open - Parking was in a pay and display carpark - it wasnt until after i had brought my ticket i knew that i could get a ticket from the hotel for free. Everything looked "tired" and our bedroom furniture was downright shabby. Very much in need of replacement. Bedroom carpet stained in places. Curtains didn't close properly. No lift. Three quite steep flights to negotiate with luggage, no porter. Have stayed there many times and twice have been unable to get the television working. The fault was only rectified on the last day of my stay. Beds a bit soft although under-going refurbishment my solve this. Room a little dated but again refurb may fix. Bit scruffy from the front, but nice. It is not obvious in the car park that you can get a parking voucher from the hotel, meaning that people might pay for parking before entering reception. It could have done with wifi. Bed was rather old/lumpy... Decor is a little tired which shows more because it is such a grand building. Clearer signs needed to avoid confusion in car park. The only downside is the lack of a lift. Front steps could do with a wash. Very cold in the room. The shower didn't had enough water to have a decent shower. It is sad to see the deterioration evident on the external walls. There was no way of ventilating our room which was very hot because of the unusually hot weather. Rooms dated and unispiring Mould and dampness in en suit shower room rooms In need of refurbishment. The beds were the worse ever experienced. I think they were spring based. the place although clean appeared very shabby and in need of basic lift. Needs updating Very poor shower Someone already booked into our allocated room so we got switched into a poor room(after walking in on them) Holes in carpet and walls Breakfast room too small, had to wait for table and food got taken away before we'd finished. it seems to be stuck in a time warp! it really needs some simple to complex measures ro address its outdated furnishings. Hotel looks very tired and is in need of major refurbishment. Dinner menu is limited but good value. The room was below standered and the pcitures on Booking.com was not the room i stayed in. Will be letting my company know not to use. Decor lack of wifi in bedroom and poor menu choices. Picture looked like it was rural but our window opened right onto main road. Small bed poor shower. dirty walls by radiator carpet so threadbare there was only the backiing left damp smell in bathroom tv so small you could hardly see it from your bed. Hotel is very run down, cleaners need sacking. Hotel looks and feels as if nobody cares any more. It certainly isn't worth £70 a night. I stayed in room 269 from 17.06 to 20.06. The amenities particularly shower in the bathroom is in poor condition and the knob is coming out. The supplies in the room are not kept for one day. It indicates the casual approach in maintaining the rooms. Service very poor. The room & furnishings was minimal and in a poor state. Everything needs a lick of paint and a visit to ikea for updating. Will not stay there again!. Paying to park, no wifi in room, dirty, dated, tv was very small and old. Cold, damp room that bore no resemblance to the photos on letsbookhotel.com. Hotel staff not interested in being there and everything about the place was shabby. Grand old building that has been let go to ruin. If the staff smiled from time to time it could have helped. May have been an ok stay at half what I paid. Avoid if you can. Whole place smelled of vinegar. Carpets worn and stained. Ancient beds lumpy and uncomfortable. No hot water from arrival to departure and staff unable to help. Staff not able to reach management to deal with problems. Dirty room smelt of sewage had smallest shower ever!.
