  Loved it. It is just across the street from the walled city, specifically right across from the Puerta de la Santa, with a restaurant on the top floor (that being the level of the entrance to the walled city) and lower floors given to reception and the rooms. Calling a taxi on departure gets one to the hotel i - Would we stay here again if we would return to Avila ? a definite YES. Value for the money and all that you need to re-charge from an intereresting day. A good example of "less is more"... Not that other hotels are worse... Hotel Puerta just wins with a very good balance between what is offered and what it cost to stay there. And the location is as good as it can ever be!

  I have stayed in three hotels in Ávila, which were all nice, but this one was easily the best! The staff were friendly. I had a lovely room with a view of the square. The place was clean and spacious. The heating was good (for January). The breakfast was high quality. It couldn't be better, and the price was reasonable.   The best hotel I ever stayed in. Located in the heart of the historical part of the city. Feels like you are positioned in the castle. Very clean, very quite. Spacios apartments. I slept well. The hostal offers value for money, it is very central, and the building, an old terraced mansion block, had some character to it. The hotel manager was helpful and friendly, and gave me a great little map & tourist guide of Avila which got me started. The room had a radiator, and overnight the building was quite warm enough.
