I liked everything except the mosquitoes. The pousada has a great location,the facilities are fine, the landlady speaks English and is accommodating. We reserved a budget double, and when we arrived asked for something bigger, willing to pay the additional price. They were not filed then and gave us a better room for the same price. Place was clean, comfortable and so handy to the old town. Lovely breakfast. Only the owner spoke English and there were no maps but tourist office in old town has good maps and info.

This place is a family business so we got a good attention on our requests. The breakfast was simple but very good and well prepare, they serve fresh fruits, cheese, bread, cakes, fresh juice, milk and coffee. Don't expect any language other then portuguese there. Paraty is a historical city so the buildings are old, even in the fancy hotels, so don't expect too much luxury in this cheap accommodations, but based on other experiences on tha. We have liked the location, the spacious room and the breakfast. The decor is nice. The staff members are efficient & curteous, however the fact that only one of them can speak English made communication a little bit of a problem. Good location near the city center on one side and the bus terminal on the other side (you won't hear the buses though). We've had cold water when showering. Breakfast could have had a little more choice. Bed was hard as we're the pillows- all members of the family found it hard and uncomfortable to sleep. The hotel charged the first night on my credit card just after the reservation, even though they said the cancellation was free before 48 hours of the check-in. The breakfast could be better. I stayed at room 8 and this review reflects that room. The bathroom smelled like a cesspit, not strong but uncomfortable, at least I didn't got to the room itself. There wasn't hot water on the first day (wasn't really a big issue because of the climate). Some bathroom equipment items could use more careful maintenance. We didn't get the room we booked. Instead we were put away in a small room in which we didn't have much room to put our luggage. Although we could switch to another room the second day and we got a lower rate for the smaller room, we found it strange to get something we had not booked. We booked the stay 3 months in advanced and we made no last minute changes which could have made it difficult. Not as clean as other places we stayed in Brazil, crawling baby had black knees & feet after one lap of the common area. I guess floor gets sweeped but hasn't seen a mop in a long while. Olde worlde decor is in keeping with Parati style, but light fitting hanging by wires & rotting wood is not. Rooms are outdates, parking was on the street and my car was hit overnight. Staff not always kind. The cleanliness in our room/bathroom could be improved and the room equipements are not recent. The room was very small and noisy, we stayed in a room in the ground floor close to reception and there was a TV loud until late at night. The bed and pillows were terrible. The toilet was very small, bad shower. Bad value for money.
