On the edge of the North York Moors National Park, this traditional pub dates back to 1620 and offers free Wi-Fi in the bar and free parking on site. It retains its original flagstone floor, beamed ceiling and a log fireplace.
Rooms at Wombwell Arms have simple décor and come with a flat-screen TV with Freeview channels, and tea and coffee making facilities. Each also has an en suite bathroom with free toiletries and a hairdryer.
A full English breakfast is provided each morning, served in the charming old restaurant. British food with a South African twist is served for lunch and dinner, and is prepared using high-quality local ingredients.
The historic city of York can be reached in 40 minutes’ drive, and the market town of Thirsk is 20 minutes from Wombwell Arms. The surrounding National Park offers plenty of opportunities for walking and cycling.

We loved everything about Wombwell Arms, staff, locals and the surrounding area and other guests that were there at the same time as we were. All the staff were brilliant. Wombwell Arms was very clean and very comfortable. The food was excellent as was the wine and the company of everybody. Loved the log fire, the remoteness and no phone signal. We will defiantly return at the drop of a hat! Pure bliss, peacefullness and quietness. todos opiniões »
Stayed before had to come back as memory sometimes plays tricks - it didn't!!! Really lovely warm welcome, very friendly and knowledgeable host, great location,(walks right from the door) a truly a fabulous country pub (great range of beers and wines), open fires , beams .etc etc. AND a well thought out and wide range of dinner choices
(even for a vegetarian like me ) - one of the best breakfasts ever. We'll be back !.
Great location for visits to local sites at Byland Abbey (half mile), Rievaulx Abbey & Helmsley Castle. Evening food and morning breakfast were both excellent! Evening menu has a South African touch to it, with imported venison and Kingklip fish on the menu. Very few rooms; a comfortable and very quiet night's sleep. Highly recommended!.
Lovely setting, friendly, attentive, well-trained staff. The food is extremely good and we were offered an adventurous international menu alongside traditional English favourites. The rooms are tastefully appointed and kept in keeping with the 17th Century building. Lovely atmosphere - perfect for a quiet break.
Everything. The room was comfortable (looks nicer than the photo available), everywhere was extremely clean as were all the public areas. The food was excellent and the owners & staff were friendly & efficient. This is a beautiful little place set in a stunning location. We can't recommend it highly enough.
Lovely location and really nice old country pub with a difference - it's a restaurant AND a pub with comfortable accomadation. Very helpful and friendly staff
Really great choice of quality meals (even for vegetarians like us ) One of best breakfasts ever.
We loved the homely fires, cosy bedrooms, the location was excellent for us, good walks, close to york, bus stop outside, and the furniture trail, spotlessly clean, excellent food, cooked by the owner, cannot fault it, would stay again.
Simply a delightful place to stay. Warm welcome from the owner. on our arrival. Excellent breakfast with warm friendly service. My brother and I will return i the summer.(if not before) We would recommend the Wombwell Arms to all.
Very comfortable and clean. Food at breakfast was cooked and served to a very good standard. Didnt try any other food but would imagine it would be to a high standard. Owners Ian and Eunice, were friendly and approachable.
We have known about this inn a long time we used to live about 30 mins away, but we never stayed or ate there. Simply fantastic, dinner and breakfast superb. Highly organized nothing too much trouble, a sheer delight.
The staff were exceptionally good. The food at breakfast was lovely.
We had been before and felt right at home. The location is perfect right in the North Yorkshire countryside and Helmsley is a mere 6 miles away.
The warm welcome by our hosts, Great food well prepared and skilfully served. Attentive without being overwelming. Friendly comfortable bar. Well appointed rooms that were spotlessly claen and very well stocked.
Just stayed the one night. Hosts could not have made us more welcome. Room was very comfortable and the evening meal and breakfast were lovely. All in all a great night and would certainly stay there again.
Bar and the comfort of the log fire.
food good, menu interesting, but, when staying for a few days, we missed a daily Special. with three of us, we soon worked through the menu!.

Warm welcome, clean pleasant room & delicious dinner. A lovely country pub in a beautiful location.
Food was delicious.
Nothing, there isn't anything not to like/love.
Nothing.
only booked for one night - will have to come back for longer.
nothing.
Nothing really except that the en-suite was a bit small in Room 1 or was it perhaps me (Mr) having long legs.
Needed a separate sheet on the bed as room warm above pub. Quilt to much
ended up using the throw.
that we couldn't stay for more than 1 night.
If I had to pick a fault the t.v was too small for the room(but I'm been very picky ).
No mobile phone signal, and the towels were damp when we arrived, tiny television in room. But these were only very nit picking faults.
Nothing.
high wine prices in restaurant.
nothing.
Nothing, everything good.
En-suite very small and towels were damp but only due to extreme cold
weather - no fault of owners. Soon warmed them on radiator in bedroom.
Nothing.
Room was just a little bit small, but as it is an old building, that is only to be expected.
En-suite a little cozy, but not a problem. A pity we weren't able to stay longer.
no chair in bedroom
wardrobe door loose hanging
shower seals showing black fungi.
Nothing.
Nothing.
Price of the food and drink, fancy menu with fancy prices. £5.95 for 2 scoops of ice cream for desert seems a bit extreme.
nothing.
Nothing.
Both being tall we only just managed to sit on the WC & the seat was loose. The ensuite was miniscule - just too cramped.
What we didn't like most of all was when the cat came in sat on one of the bar tables & started to clean its backside. Most unhygeinic & undesirable where food is being served. A young man moved it & sat it on the bar!!.
Shower was very poor.
