  We really liked the views from the hotel of the mountains and over the town of Takayama. The staff was very friendly and their English was good enough. The hotel is huge and though it might seem old, it still preserves the style and grace from back in the day when it was built. The free shuttle bus in the morning was very convenient. The breakfast was abundant, however - Excellent hotel. We had a wonderful stay: beautiful public bath, spacious tradicional rooms with amazing view of the city. Extremely helpful staff although do not speak a lot of English. Breakfast was included and if was delicious!! As it is quite far away from the station they offer a shuttle free bus to the station at mornings. They even gave us a traditional tissue as a gift!!

  Don't worry about the location, The owner will drive you to Takayama Station. The location near the river is terrific. Grilled Hida beef at food stall (400yen per stick) by the river at the morning market is excellent. - The Spa was the standout! But Iguchi-san was wonderful and the acommodations terrific!

  My wife and I stayed with my elderly mother in the same room. K's House is a chain of hostels in Japan, and I recommend it highly. The only downside is that as a hostel, the rooms are small. But once you know that, the arrangements are great, and the rooms are clean. Right at the front, no shoes are allowed in the building.
