Pousada Favela Cantagalo - Fotos
O que as pessoas dizem
We didn't want to stay in a concrete hotel on a beach, the kind
you find anywhere! We wanted a real Brazilian experience so that's
why we chose to stay in a favela. Yes this hostel is inside a favela
and no you don't have to be scared at all! Favelas are now safer
than ever and Rio is not any less safe than Paris, London or any other
big city. Probably it's safer than some major European city! Just
use common sense.
The hostel in itself is nothing fancy but it's REALLY clean, the hosts are real. todos opiniões »
OK, where shall I start ! I really loved everything about my stay in the pousada:
- The location is great, in between Ipanema and Copacabana (10 minutes walk to the metro Cantagalo, metro Ipanema was closed).
- The owner is really nice, she speaks French, English and other European languages. She also provided advices when I needed. Do not hesitate to ask her if you need to rent a bike or other she is very well embedded in the favela and you'll have better prices than if you go to a beach sho.
An absolutely unique experience. Great staff (special thanks to Ligia
and Fabiane), spotless no-frills accommodation (I stayed in the annexe),
superb breakfast with a view of Rio from the terrace to die for, 5
minutes from Copacabana, 8 minutes from Ipanema. Day and night, the
favela is as safe as any other part of Rio, in fact considerably less
threatening than Centro after dark. With basic Portuguese, you will have
no trouble striking conversations and making friends with the locals.
Try Bar .
One of the greatest place to stay in Rio. Absolutely safe place, close to the beach, not far from the metro station and value for money. Catnagalo is not 100% favela in my opinion that is a plus in a way. It still preserves the favela spirit, but there is no any danger or risk there. The staff is very nice and friendly. Wonderful terrace to have breakfast and enjoy the sights. My room was rather big and comfortable. I definitely recommend the hotel for everyone who wants to enjoy Rio all in all.
Great place to stay. So close to Copacabana and Ipanema Beaches. Staff were wonderful and friendly. Breakfast everyday was amazing. If you are doubting this place because of the favela, don't, its perfectly safe and right on the edge of the favela anyway. Always plenty of police around and Rio has really cleaned up their act. Great place to stay with an awesome view to really experience the favela lifestyle. We will definitely stay here again when we come back to Rio.
The Pousada is in an excellent location, 10 mins walk one way to Copocabana, and 10 mins walk the other way to Ipanema.
In Rio de Janeiro the price paid represented great value for money.
The Pousada is safe, and I had no problem at all with the neighbourhood.
The rooms are very spacious and clean, with good showers, and the breakfast was excellent, with a fantastic view from the dining area.
It is great having the favela experience!
The sister of the man who runs the Pousada was lovely and spoke many languages which made it very easy to communicate. She helped organise tours as well as just being lovely!
The Breakfast is amazing, all freshly cooked there and then with the best scrambled egg! The views at breakfast making it even more enjoyable!!.
wonderful view from the terrasse
close of both main beaches (10min walk)
Peaceful behaviour from people in favela
the safety of the favela
Welcome of ligia and his family (she speaks many languages)
Lots of cheap facilities inside the favela (restaurant:10reals, bike rental: 40reals a day, bar: 600ml beer for 3reals...).
The pousada is situated in a favela yet a friendly one though. The staff didn't speak much english but they understood and were able to give advice on where to go and how and what to do. The view is just amazing and the pousada itself very clean. I was glad we stayed there.
The self-served breakfast was amazing, with fruit and juice prepared in
front of you. The lovely friendly staff tried their very best to
communicate with non-Portuguese speakers like myself. Great view at the
terrace made the uphill walk worthwhile.
the location is awesome. right between copacabana and ipanema. since it is located in a pacificated favela you get an anazing view over tge copacabana, the sea and part of the favela right in the hills of rio.
The location is perfect, right in favela Cantagalo. You'll feel very safe there, but still you've got a favela experience. I loved the view from the terrace. Just 10 min walk to Ipanema or Copacabana.
Awesome staff and great experience staying in a favela. Breakfast was awesome and everyone there was so helpful and kind. The favela was soooooo safe and a wonderful experience. Highly recommended.
The owner and brother were excellent from givimg me a glass of water when I arrived until carry my bag down to taxi at 4.40am. Excellent position in Rio but as the name suggests it's in a Favela.
Good location, had no trouble though it was in a favela. Good views and delicious breakfast.
Very interesting place to stay. Very nice personal.
Friendly staff, good location.
The location is very good, as its only 10 min walk to Copacabana or Ipanema in each direction. The fresh made juices for breakfast are very good, and the view from the roof top is awesome. The rooms are clean, but can be a bit warm as there are no air con. Value for money is good as Rio is a very expensive city to visit, especially on accomodation.
Stayed at the annex which means an apartment with own entrance from the
street. The room was nice and clean with kitchen, shower and bedroom.
Particularly liked the favela atmosphere in the area. Very friendly
staff. Had no trouble with security but as always in Rio be careful,
take a taxi if coming home very late at night.
The view from the breakfast terrace is wonderful, friendly staff and very clean room, the music on an evening was not an issue for us as mentioned in other reviews, with the fan on you could hardly hear it, excellent experience staying on the edge of a favella.
friendly staff
clean
very good breakfast (with fresh juice!)
location, inbetween inpanema (15 min) and copacapana (10 min)
location in the favela. We, a young white couple didn't feel comfortable.
Well worth visiting just in mere terms of location (Farvella)
Wonderful fourth coming and service minded staff
Everything worked, and seemed of newer date.
The panoramic views. The breakfast. Handy for access to beaches & city.
It was very cheap for this area, but still expansive. The room is okay. The view is nice.
Rooms are cleaned everyday
Bed sheets and towels changed every 3 days.
kind stuff
big and clean room
nice view.
Staff are friendly and helpful.
No internet in the rooms.
If you have some serious problems with your heart or legs I would recommend you to choose the rooms that are at the bottom of the satircase, though I can't tell that the stairs is a big problem - it's not too long.
The Pousada is high up with a few steps to climb, as long as you are reasonably fit though, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
It is still a favela so go there with an open mind, expect parties and music all night. It takes some getting used to. And ofcorse still have your head screwed on at all times given where you will be staying. From my experience the favela is friendly.
hard to get hot water for shower.
The metro station (Ipanema/General Osorlo) was closed during our
stay so we had to use bus replacement service instead, which took up
more time to travel about.
since the location is in one of the busiest parts in rio do not expect it to be quiet at night!.
The noise until 6AM at weekends.
Sat night really loud party all night long. The staff didn't speak english.
Walking up the hill.
No internet connection while we were there.
It is part of the experience and enriched our stay in Rio, but one
should be aware of noisy nights. Not suitiable for people who has
trouble walking. Poor wifi. Dont leave food out during the night, then
some animal will take a bite. Put it in the fridge.
Bit of a hike to get up to it but the view more than compansates, ice cold water in the shower but you get used to it.
location in the favela. We, a young white couple didn't feel comfortable.
No hot water in the shower (electrical water heater, thus a handwarm shower)
Noisy neighborhood (but what can you expect from a Farvella?)
Poor quality beds.
The lack of regular WiFi for making bookings for outings,& travel plans.
Electricity cuts, walking up the dirty steps in the dark.
Some rooms have little light & are very stuffy.
Try to get a room not in the basement. The room had a bad light and we found the wall tiles in the bedroom needs getting used to.
Internet connection was poor
The stairs and hill we had to trek up everyday when we left the hotel.
the stuff didnt understand english and wasnt ther most od the time
cold water
144 stairs to the room including outside.
The place is not safe at all!!long walk from copacobana beach.
