Breakfast. The staff were all very pleasant. The breakfast was very nice. The bar. The staff were friendly. location. The lovely receptionist that worked so hard to sort things out and gaveus a discounted rate, this lady and the manager were our saving grace. convenience to our destination. very little. Nothing. presentation and extremities of premises needs a little more tlc - with a little more repair investment it could be upgraded to 3 star. Too much to list!!! I'm really not difficult to please.I Read badreviews before booking and thought people were exagerating. They arenot!!Terrible breakfast service. It turned into a Farce and the 'cookedbreakfast' was hardly edible. The receptionist was eating his steak piewhen I checked in.Not professional.Bedroom's ok but hallway was grubby. Hotel had a tired look and perhaps needs sprucing up. meal times a bit off and food a bit hit and miss, staff could do with better training. some of the food was not properly cooked. the breakfast sausage had an unusual taste.the potatoes were not cooked properly and the custard looked like it was made with water.
the room had been updated but seemed to be done on a shoestring budget as the wallpaper had been painted over, the bathroom had damp patches.Thought the room was over priced as it was clean but very tatty - looked a lot larger room on the web site pics. The hotel is very "tired looking". It needs a refurbishment urgently.Being locked in room, telephone in room not working, some staff appeared to lack training. The flooring was dirty and not cleaned during my stay. Bits of paper that were there on my arrival were still there after 5 days. The carpet on the stairs on the upper landing was very stained and dirty and the floorining in the room was very old and not cleaned well during my stay and I lost a night's sleep due to a very dilapitdated bed that was replaced.staff very poor not properly dressed when serving food. Was a twin not double, poor breakfast, no clean tables to sit at, holein window amongst other things. The Hotel is very tired, scruffy and has seen better day's. paid more for the hotel using booking site than actually charged by hotel. Hotel appeared to be run by staff on youth opportunities schemes. Room was shabby and dirty, ceiling paper was held up with selotape and bed linen had not been visited by an iron.I asked to change rooms as the room had a noisy saniflow , and a running tap ,and was on the stairs with lots of people passing even though I asked for a quiet room and the hotel was nearly empty.I moved to another room, which was still a bit dirty , had rubbish underneath the bed and cards from the weekend wedding before . Breakfast was very small. This hotel is not value for money. The place was filthy and we left within an hour of arriving. It boasted a comfortable newly furnished guest lounge which you hadto step overthe hoover to get to. Then it was full of childrens toys with a rolled up carpet across the floor!.

Food & Drink
Head chef Janice and her 2 assistant chefs have created a delightful yet reasonably priced menu. A traditional carvery is served on Sundays, and all food is completely homemade.
Breakfast is served in the Castle Room restaurant. Lunch and evening meals will be served in the Regency restaurant. There are 2 bars in the hotel; one situated in the reception area and a public bar to the side of the building. A new 42 inch wall-mounted TV has been installed in the bar, and a full Sky Sports subscription has been acquired to show live sport.
Hotel information details
For many centuries, The Hand Hotel was a coaching inn for the travellers from London to Dublin. The hotel still offers a very warm atmosphere and has earned itself a good reputation for its great service. The bars offer a relaxing and happy atmosphere and the Brewery Suite caters for dinners, conferences and weddings. In the warmer months, the garden provides a lovely setting for champagne weddings and buffets.
The residents’ lounge is a snug room for residents only. The room is situated close to the lounge bar, and also has access to music facilities. Use the residents’ lounge to escape the busy bustle of our public bar.
The Regency restaurant is a suburb period room with a late 1800s style. The room is classical, grand and impressive, and can accommodate up to 60 people. The Castle Room is an open, casual room located at the heart of the hotel, which offers soft, subtle background music and is the ideal setting for your breakfast.
Information about the area
The border town of Chirk stands on the escarpment above the point where rivers Ceiriog and Dee meet.
The area's main visitor attraction is Chirk Castle: a magnificent 700 year old marcher fortress built by King Edward I. Owned by the National Trust, the castle is open to the public and has a shop and licensed tea room. Chirk's railway station established in 1846 by the Scottish engineer Henry Robertson provides a useful starting point for exploring Chirk, Chirk Castle, Llangollen, The Ceiriog Valley and the surrounding areas.
The River Ceiriog rises in the Berwyn Mountains at 1,800 feet and then swiftly, impetuously, descends eastwards for some 18 miles to confluence with the more sedate River Dee. The Ceiriog Valley provides a myriad of different landscapes and every turn in the valley's meandering road brings something new and unexpected.
Room information details
Since Darren and Janice have taken ownership of the hotel the residential rooms have all been considered on an individual basis and all the amenities have been greatly improved.
All rooms are en suite and feature tea and coffee facilities. Please see individual room details for a complete list of facilities on offer.
A dormitory will sleep a party of up to 15 people, complete with its own toilet facilities. As an additional benefit, the use of the sauna and shower facilities is included.
