Situated next to Western park, Verandahs Backpackers is located on Auckland’s famous Ponsonby Road, with cafes and restaurants on the doorstep. Britomart Transport Centre is only 5 minutes’ drive away.
Each guest lounge has a book exchange, magazines, games, regular movie nights and a computer with high-speed internet access. Facilities include luggage storage, guest laundry and bicycle hire.
BBQ facilities are available in the warmer months. The modern shared kitchen is fitted with electric ovens, gas stoves and microwaves. There is also complimentary coffee, tea, sugar and spices.
Verandahs Backpackers Lodge offers a choice of shared and private rooms. All include blackout curtains, heating, carpeted floors and access to shared bathroom facilities.

This was a nice backpackers. I really liked that the bed was not a bunk bed, so my sleep was not disturbed by another person moving the bed. The bathrooms were clean and well maintained. The location was excellent, walking distance to all of the CBD attractions, ferries, and right off Ponsonby Road. The view of Sky City and the Auckland skyline from the veranda at night is very pretty.
The beds are very comfy
The kitchen and common areas are big and well furnished
The staff and the backpackers were all very friendly and helpful

Great place near artist street with nice rooms and many bathrooms that are so close that you do not feel that they are shared. It is an old charming house wonderful inside though a bit shabby outside. Great!.
friendly host, who was very welcoming, very clean airy room and facilities, providing all that was needed for a comfortable stay, exceeded all my expectations for a backpackers accommodation.
It is just beside a park with a view on the Sky Tower. The 2 buildings are well maintained and you don't really feel you are in a backpacker, except for the sharing bathrooms.
Very warm atmosphere with very warm owner.
You can share many moments with other travelers (or some people who stays for long term) and still you can enjoy your own time.
This is great value for a budget stay. Great park for walks behind several old character buildings although most need some repair. Kitchen is in one of the buildings.

Nice little hotel and good for the price. Kitchen was extensive with everything you need, and although it looked basic it was definitely functional.

There was only one heater for a very large room, and it is on a timer, so if you push it before you go to sleep, it stops running in the night and you wake up freezing cold.

More hooks in the toilet and rooms. Some free wifi would be nice.
you need to buy internet at the reception, so if you arrive after it is closed (after 19h) you can not buy internet until next day. Besides, the wi-fi is not available in the rooms, only in public areas. Buuut...we already know it, so maybe if they can improve this point, the accomodation will be just perfect!.
The room is too simple...for 74 dollars a night I guess a chair or a
small table to put a book, the watch and the wallet on would be nice.
There is no storage place in the room, you have to keep everything in
your luggage.
You don't get towels. We booked the hostel a long time ago. Meanwile the prices had changed so we had to pay more even if it was clear for wich amount we had booked the room.
Internet is expensive, $10 only lasted for an hour of skype!
Staff could be friendlier and more helpful concerning attractions.
There are two buildings, but there is kitchen only in one of them and it is quite annoying if it's cold or if you have to go many times to the kitchen.
There were few toilets/bathrooms for the number of people there, so in the morning there was a queue waiting for use it. In the bedrooms there are only the beds, no hooks for the clothes, no wardrobe, no closet..
