I've been staying at ryokan Sansuiso 2-3 times a year for the past 15 years. The value for the price is great. Don't expect the Ritz here, this is a small traditional style Japanese inn, the tatami mat rooms are small with fouton for sleeping. Awesome in general. The staff were consistently thoughtful and happy, and jumped through hoops for us whenever we had even the smallest questions. They are more than kind, and the services offered are definitely appropriate to the price. Of course, the location is also brilliant, right on the Yamanote train line (Gotanda Station), and has a grocery store and many restaurants nearby.

I almost wish I had to stay longer. The stay was very pleasant. The staff was very helpful and spoke perfect english. This isn't a requirement for me, but it was very helpful as this was my first night in Tokyo. It's a nice 5 minute walk from the huge Shinagawa station. It's a great value. It definitely has a more hostel feel, so don't expect a 5

This is an ideal choice for a young budget traveller who needs basic accommodation in order to be able to visit Tokyo. The small common room next to the reception that offers coffee for example for breakfast was appreciated. You have to be prepared to be considerate to others in order to maximize enjoyment of your stay. Staff will answer any questions you might have by email before you arrive. Single accommodation was a three tatamı room.
