Haus Gerstbauer is a 300-year-old, renovated building in a quiet location in the centre of Aggsbach-Markt in Lower Austria's scenic Wachau region. It features a garden with barbecue facilities and offers bicycle rental and free parking on site. Final cleaning fee is included in the room rate. Aggsbach-Markt has a beautiful sandy beach on the Danube River for swimming and sunbathing. The train and bus station is a 5-minute walk away and a supermarket can be found just 200 metres from Haus Gerstbauer. The famous Venus of Willendorf was once found in a village just 2 km away, which is now home to the Venus Museum. The Baroque Melk Abbey and the Jauerling Ski Slope can be reached by car in 10 minutes.

We initially booked the large apartment for three nights at Haus Gerstbauer but liked the accommodation and location so much that we stayed an additional two nights.The owners go out of their way to help you, from offering tips on what to do in the area to introducing you to local cuisine. Aggsbach Markt is a great base from which to explore the Wachau Valley, and even if you don't have a car, which was our case, it's relatively easy to get around. The local bus stop is only a five minute walk .
