Guests can rent bicycles and kayaks from the property. A shuffleboard, basketball court and outdoor heated pool are also available. Motel Shalimar Cottages is 3 miles from the J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge. Guided nature tours can be found at the Tarpon Bay Explorers, a 5 minute drive away.

The rooms are large and clean. The beach is steps away from your room and the view is beyond compare. The Shalimar staff are friendly and welcoming and the grounds and facilities are perfectly maintained. I can count on a quiet and relaxed vacation when I stay at the Shalimar. The island is beautifully maintained and offers a variety of restaurants and activities. We loved the place! The location to the beach is very close. Has a nice pool. The location on the Island is great; easy to get around the traffic from there but yet close to everything. It was very quiet!! We will probably go back there.

The room was good, plenty of room for comfort and the screened balcony was a plus with the view of the ocean and beach. The location of being very close to the ocean. The staff was very nice and helpful. The room was comfortable for the family with parking right outside. Good for relaxing!. The efficiency was so nice-very clean and a full sized kitchen. The bed was large, comfortable and clean. All the amenities expected at a nice hotel. The resort was wonderful, pool was a nice break from the beach. Close enough to shops to bike, but not so close that it is busy. Very Enjoyable. Proximity to beach, very clean rooms, friendly staff,screen deck with beach view. We were very pleased with our stay. Right on the beach. Clean, quiet, close to other activities on the island. Liked the ocean right out the door and it was quiet and peaceful. Right on the beach! Shalimar is right on the beach, you literally step off the porch & you are in the sand. Excellent views with plenty of privacy. The staff was wonderful & the pool was great. I would recommend Shalimar to anyone visiting Sanibel. The beach chairs are terrible. It is not possible to sit and read on the beach because the chair backs are so slanted. The Shalimar needs more straight backed (or adjustable) chairs! This year (Sept 2013) the water was not as clear as years past. I heard this was due to the release of fresh water into the gulf. What a sin!!!. Bathroom was small and the sink was too far back to be easy for a short person to use. Most local restaurants close by 9pm. It would have been nice had there been maid service the days we were there. My husband had problems with the noseeums. Don't sit out at dusk or dawn. Everything else was wonderful. No ceiling fans in the rooms. Would have liked to have fresh air as opposed to all air conditioning. Tub was clogged,when you showered in was to your ankles. Told staff and someone was to fix it but that was not the case. Told same person again and was surprise that it was not fix, said maintance guy told her it was fix ?. The guy in the room next door whose alarm clock went off at 6am every morning. Also, couldn't drink the water. walls & floor very thin, room was on bottom floor of motel, could hear all footsteps & TV from room above. Would stay there again, but only on second level or in single cottage. If you are unfortunate to have undisiplined children or loud adults in the room right next to you in the hotel, forget sleeping or relaxing! Walls are paper thin for a hotel that charged $175 a night!. Lack of privacy...could hear and see your neighbor. The fact that we could heard every thing from the adjoining balconies. We didn't stay long enough. The noisy ac kicking on and off and neighbors' noises. The walls need to be soundproofed. A paddle fan would decrease the need for the ac. No one was friendly. Only cleaned the room once in the 15 days we were there. For the money we spent it should have been cleaned daily. The air conditioning did not work well. The "beach chairs" were a joke- should have been a lounge chair. That there was a fee to use the bikes and the cost was a joke. Easier to go somewhere to rent both. There was not anything I didn't like.
