Rooms were amazing- they had obviously spent some money. I loved that they were named after people like A.A. Milne (the room we stayed in. However, next time, I would like to be in either C.S. Lewis or J.R.R. Tolkien, as they taught my Grandpa!!
The service was excellent- the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Free drink on arrival and extra items on the veggie breakfast. These things were just the icing on the cake to what was already lovely, friendly service.
Food- awesome. alle vurderinger »
The rooms are quirky but incredibly comfortable with amazing views over the river - my room had four rooms with dual aspect. The jacuzzi was special and even the toiletries were excellent quality. The location cannot be faulted and the food is amazing. Every member of staff from reception to restaurant were attentive, polite and helpful. Other reviewers who whinge about long waits in the restaurant, it's one of the most popular venues in the City, of course it gets busy - it gets busy because i.
We had a superior room and although the room itself was rather small, the bathroom made up for this. We had been left water and a bottle of the brewery's beer which was a nice touch. Staff were very friendly and although they were under pressure - the card system which allowed access to the rooms was not working and every time we wanted to go up to our room, a member of staff had to take us up three flights of stairs to let us into our room. Hopefully, for their sake, this IT glitch was bein.
I was apprehensive at booking a room above a busy pub, but the friendly staff, well decorated and very clean bedroom soon began to reduce the fears. The superb location and good range of beers gives a very pleasant atmosphere to sit and relax in. The popularity of the outside terrace obviously causes some delay in getting food served, but all through our 5 night stay we didn't feel this delay was excessive, the meals we were served were also very good. We found the staff without exception were .
The staff were amazing and ready to help the moment we arrived. The breakfast (which is included) was delicious and they were always willing to bring you a pot of coffee or tea to your room. The rooms were lovely, spacious, and clean. It wasn't right in the center of town but it was on the river and right next to one of the colleges. And it was only about a 7 minute walk to the main high street. My husband and I would highly recommend this as a place to stay in Oxford!.
the staff were very friendly and would do anything for you.
room was clean, stylish, modern but small bathroom but had everything you need.
food and drinks were reasonably price and tasty.
many cooked options for breakfast plus cereals juices tats etc from 730am till 930am
only 10 minute walk from city centre shops colleges close by all in walking distance
beautiful location lovely to see my the river in the evening with a cold drink.
Good location, lovely views over the river and not noisy despite it being a pub too. Very comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast with varied menu. The Eggs Royale were superb! The Hotel staff were very welcoming. They were particularly helpful in looking after my luggage at the start and end of my stay and even offered me a cup of tea/coffee after I had checked out.
Brilliant location on the river & a very short walk from the
colleges & city centre, serving a nice range of Fullers & other
ales, lagers, etc.. Very friendly & helpful staff. Lovely pub
atmosphere. Food served looked good, although on this occasion we
didn't eat at the pub apart from breakfast which was first rate.
I liked the position of the hotel - next to the river and close to the city. The weather was very good and so the outside patio area was always well used and very enjoyable. The arrangements for parking were good and we were able to leave our cases behind the bar on the last day. The free papers at breakfast were a good idea.
This was my favorite place that we stayed during our vacation. I liked the design of the room, the view from the window, and the design of the shower. I am a huge reader so the library wallpaper was an added plus. Having someone prepare and delivery excellent tea and coffee was a great touch. Breakfast was wonderful.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming. They delivered fresh tea and coffee to your room at any time of the day. The room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was included and extremely generous. All staff members made you feel special. Proximity to the main centre is good. View of the river is most relaxing.
Everything. The staff were extremely helpful - nothing too much trouble - no hassles at all. Location is perfect for visiting Oxford. Free car parking. Clean, smart decor.
We greately appreciated having tea/coffee brought to room as we required rather than kettle in room facilities usually offered by hotels.
Tremendous location overlooking the river with terrace beside the water and Folly Bridge. Only 5 or 10 minutes walk into Oxford town centre. Bedroom clean, tidy and very comfortable in a purposefully olde worlde way. Excellent breakfast and good selection of ales in the pub. Great staff - friendly and helpful.
Fabulous location, walking distance to hop on bus and town centre. Located right on the river. Rooms well done with great design them. Meal at pub great and an old world atmosphere. Hired a boat right outside venue, just perfect! Book a parking bay as few and not much close by. This was a great stay.
All the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, going out of their way to make our stay enjoyable.
Rooms were clean, warm and cosy
The location was excellent, just a short walk into town and right on the river.
Food was really good with plenty of choice.
The bed was very comfortable and the room had a good view of the River
Thames. The breakfast served was excellent. Martin, the manager, was
very friendly and helpful. Given the location above a pub and next to a
main road, it was surprisingly peaceful.
Really helpful/friendly staff. Really good food. The pub is very popular and busy, but as residents we were given priority when eating.Clean and comfortable room with lovely view over river and Folly bridge. Short walking distance to city centre.
The location is excellent. The pub is right on the river and very close to town. The pub is extremely comfortable and the food is excellent. Breakfast is particularly good. The staff are very nice. We were very comfortable and enjoyed our stay.
Friendly reception
clean
Stuart Scott - manager - very considerate and apologetic when we had a problem
head waiter(Arsenal fan) very pleasant - good laugh
good situation - central
The food we had was good
servicing of the rooms - good.
Absolutely everything. Friendly staff, lovely bar, food excellent value and huge choice.
Room lovely with little extras that mean a lot like body lotion and bottled water. Could not say how much we enjoyed a much too brief stay.
-Very well positioned, a short walk into the centre for shops or universities.
-Beautiful terrace, over looking the river.
-Modern quirky individual style room with very comfortable bed.
-good breakfast and well priced restaurant.
Wonderful beer! Loved the design of the 12 individual rooms, all with writer-themes, appropriate to Oxford, lovely mix of nostalgia and modern comforts. Brilliant position both next to the river and close to the centre/shops etc.
Nice welcome. Helped me to park car. Loved the atmosphere in the pub/restaurant. Excellent menu. Excellent service. We had a great meal in the evening. Nice room with lovely view over the river. Close to centre and colleges.
Excellent location in the city centre, walking distance from the railway station and bus station. Rooms are decorated with good taste and are very clean. The pub downstairs has a very nice terrace/beer garden by the river.
Beautiful location, stunning room, comfy bed, friendly & helpful staff. A pleasure to stay there. The food also looked amazing however only ate breakfast there (which was very tasty!). Would definitely return.
friendly and helpful staff and nothing was too much trouble.the room was nicely furnished with good comfortable bed.the hotel was in a good position for the city of oxford to which you could walk to easily.
Great location. Classic pub with 12 rooms. Overlooks the Thames (Isis) river with large outside patio. Great breakfast with menu choices. Close to major sites in Oxford. Rooms cozy and well appointed.
The location and the accommodation were exactly what we wanted for a visit to Oxford. We were able to walk everywhere. The food was good and the staff were helpful and welcoming nothing was too much!.
Credit where Credit is due...!. Excellent venue on banks of the Thames, Outstanding freindly staff that could'nt done enough for you.
Carry the good work.
Thanks
Blair Connon.
Great staff Above a fantastic pub Location - beautiful (beside the
river) and central (a block down from Christ Church) Room - comfortable,
clean, updated, nicely decorated.
We had been given a River Picnic Cruise, and this was the perfect location for this and also for sightseeing around Oxford city centre.
The staff were extremely helpful.
Really nice old pub right on the Thames. Easy walk to city. Great rooms; Have been updated to a high standard. Great beds. Quiet.
Great breakfast and good dinner menu.
Excellent location. Quiet, friendly, very cosy. Home from home. Great food I enjoyed two evening meals in front of an open fire. Very helpful polite staff .
The hotel has really good river view, the rooms is clean and the bed is soft and comfortable. We enjoyed the full English breakfast provided by the hotel.
At the side of the river, very close to Christ Church
Very nice rooms, very characteristic, all comfort required, good heating
Very nice pub below.
Staff were excellent. Very handy for walking into town.
Its a young persons hotel and venue, so perhaps as a mature person I will not go again.
Bird life and accessibility to Thames and Oxford itself. Ambiance, building and its history.
Enjoyed bangers and mash Head of River style.
Friendliness of the staff particularly the manager Martin. Very helpful, nothing was too much trouble to make sure our stay was memorable.
There was a friendly and relaxing atmosphere. The room was clean and decorated really nicely and the room looked out over the river.
Thoroughly enjoyed the weekend the staff were extrememly helpful and courtious at all times. The hotel was superb and very clean.
Made to feel very welcome. Staff were pleasant and helpful.
Setting could not have been better and the room had a fantastic view.
clean bedrooms -
good mix of clientel -
friendly helpful staff-
location location location best in oxford -
basic good food.
The staff were fantastic, extremely helpful, young and enthusiastic. The accommodation was well decorated and large enough.
Very welcoming, Martin was a great host. Location great by the river on a lovely summer evening, food was good quality.
The staff were fab, martin the manager couldn't do enough for us. Great location great room very enjoyable experience.
Scenic location on river, convenient for visiting city, comfortable bed,
pictures lend character, friendly staff.
I indeed like the hotel with nice staff and unique guest room. I will stay there if I travel next time to Oxford.
Ambiance of hotel, great food, wonderful staff, beautiful room decor, and fantastic location on the river.
It was clean
It was quiet even though it was over a pub
Breakfast was great
Beautiful setting.
very attentive staff and lovely room. e
Enjoyed the free tea/coffee facilities in the bar.
Parking- we commented that we would like to reserve parking but ended up having to park and ride a couple of mins to the hotel. Not really a problem though, as it was easy. This should definitely not put anyone off. Also, just make sure you ask for parking as soon as you book!.
No tea/coffee facilities were available - we were paying for a superior room and I would have expected this. I can, however, see that tea/coffee is available downstairs in the pub and this is a way for the brewery to make that extra bit of money.
there was meant to be tea etc in rooms but they don't but they do bring it to the room for free from 7am in the morning.
The entrance to the Residents area needs sprucing up but once you are onto the stairs it's fine.
Unfortunately, along with most places in Oxford, parking facilities not
great. Not really the fault of the pub. That's just how it is! If
you're considering staying, I would recommend you talk to the very
helpful staff who I'm sure will be pleased to advise on the
Redbridge park & ride scheme in operation. This is quite cheap at £2
a day & also very convenient for the Head of the River. This may be
pre-paid by telephone or by registering on the website.
The breakfast could have offered more variety - fresh fruit, yoghurt etc.
Nothing.
Nothing.
All great.
No tea making facilities in room but we were told that if we wanted tea or coffee we only had to phone the bar and it would be provided without charge.
We were lucky that there was a free parking space but rooms outnumber spaces so need to know to book (no charge) a space in advance.
in room 2 bed squeeked dreadfully, didnt mind the squeek or two of floorboards as it was a very old building. Told staff re bed and they were fabulous.
Parking in very limited, but there are plenty of options if you don't mind dropping you bags at the hotel and parking elsewhere.
The hotel needs to provide much clearer information about parking. Even
if you reserve parking it is very limited and seems to depend on
previous guests departing. A cheaper and convenient alternative is the
Park and Ride. There was no locked room for arriving/departing
guests' luggage, which had to be left in a busy circulation area.
No tea making facility in room. But were told we could have asked for it when we booked out.
There could be more facilities to hang clothes and store luggage, but apart from that we were happy with everything else.
inconsistant meals -
one breakfast - took one hour to cook and when it arrived it was not cooked as requested and three out of the four meals came together and the other a lot later.
evening meal on the last evening -
wasited 11/2 hours for it to arrive then only two meals were cooked as requested the other two were returned underdone and after another long wait gave up!!!! and left. Stuart Scott on hearing of our problems was very understanding and resolved the situation as best he could.
nothing.
Poor breakfast. Only cornflakes. Did ask if anything else. Only had sugar cubes so could not add sugar. Bacon and mushrooms overcooked. No jam or marmalade to have with toast. Poor service. Had to ask for everything. Completely different to service and cooking in the evening.
If you require very quiet environment this in probably not the best choice.
Floorboards were a bit too creaky- added to the charm but was concerned would disturb those in the room underneath when nipping to the bathroom.
could not switch off the towel rail in the bathroom which made it unbearably hot.not much of a cereal selection for breakfast but the cooked breakfast was good.lack of drawer space in room.
No electrical outlet in bathroom for toothbrush and shaver and not enough shelf space to put wash bags etc. This was mentioned upon check out, but apart from this we loved it!.

Room backed onto another building/alley where voices carried late
into the evening or vehicles could be heard early in the morning.
Check that they definitely have a parking spot for you before you go. Can park at the park and ride but it is a bit of a hassle.
Maybe a little pricey as a lone traveller.
The Hotel walls are not very sound-proofing, it could be quite noisy in night that you can hear noise from other rooms.
Be aware that this is a pub where you can eat, so don't go here for dinner with the expectations for a good restaurant.
No parking.
Food not brilliant.
'Twin room' was not a twin room with two single beds and the sofa bed was not very comfortable.
Locked out of our room for 40 mins and caused a bit of angst as we had booked and paid for train to Holyhead.
Hope better locks when we return for Rugby World Cup 2015, if you have accomodation available. Thank you.

No parking.
pub inside needs A little more air freshener / cleaning (dogs?) outside A little more upkeep and attention to paint.
Our main problem was the structure of the ceiling the guests above our room walked around most of the evening and early in the morning and the creaking was incredibly loud (a structural problem sadly) and secondly it was very warm and we would have loved to open the window.
Door on landing kept us awake when used which was frequently.
Promised tea and coffee tray didn't turn up, but partly offset by
free bottle of stout! Very limited parking space - we were ok, but could
have been a problem otherwise.
The grout in the shower needs to be replaced, looks terrible
Parking can be a problem.
Breakfast could have been better with more choice of cereals and some fruit/yoghurts. Also, not told by staff that the cereals etc were there and by the time we saw them we had already eaten our cooked breakfast (which was very good).
