The Bear and Ragged Staff was oozing with old world charm. Log fires, exposed beams, crooked staircases - very British. The food was amazing. We ate dinner there one night and it was wonderful. Tasted home made with real local ingredients, not the usual microwaved junk most pubs serve. The staff went out of their way to provide a special vegetarian dinner every morning. alle vurderinger » This hotel is simply beautiful. The staff are fantastic, the food is very good and the rooms are simply beautiful! The location was perfect for our weekend visiting the beautiful city of Oxford followed by a Bicester shopping trip on the way home only 15 minutes from the hotel. We looked at Malmaison but thought it was too much for what it was so when we found this one at such a fab price, we booked it immediately! 15 minutes in a taxi £8-£10 to Oxtord Westside - dropped off just outside Malmai. Wow! This pub/restaurant with rooms nailed it. We spent two weeks traveling around England and based on the reviews decided to book two nights here. Granted, it was on the high side of our budget, but we're so glad we splurged on this one. It was easily the best experience we had on our trip. Staff was super-friendly and helpful. The dinner was outstanding. I'm no foodie, but the menu was Michelin-star quality in my opinion. If you're passing by or need to be in Oxford on business, do yourself . We loved our stay at this hotel. We were looking for a relaxing hotel that was close to Oxford for shopping the next day and this was a lovely choice. We were not expecting it to be as grand and rustic as it was. Our room was absolutely stunning! We ate at the hotel restaurant for dinner and it was amazing! All the staff at the hotel were exceptional, so friendly and there wasnt anything we asked that was too much for them to do! Overall, a lovely stay, would recommend straight away. We loved everything about this beautiful well run clean and friendly retreat in the Oxfordshire countryside. The rooms have lots of little touches which make for the biggest impression and boy were we impressed. The food is superb in the restaurant as is the breakfast menu. Do yourself a favour if you are thinking of a visit to Oxford then this is a must stay, or worthy of a visit just for lunch or dinner. Well done everyone keep up the good work. Room 5 was up a lovely old circular staircase. It had a power bath with monsoon shower over with double basins all top quality in a large bathroom. A very spacious bedroom with a huge very comfortable bed. Large TV and very springy carpets. The staff were great and extremely helpful. We had an excellent meal in the restaurant, very good breakfast. Good parking in a quiet village situation, very highly recommended. Located near Oxford and Bladon. Half the price of any chain hotel in central Oxford. Excelent restaurant. A little pricey but incredibly good fusion food. Varied wine list at good prices. Full of locals. Huge parking. We had a lovely two night stay. Our room was well presented with a comfy bed, nice linen and good sized bathroom. The pub and restaurant were very homely and cosy with lovely open fires. Food and service was excellent. There is a bus service, direct to Oxford, which makes The Bear a good location for visiting City. it was a pleasure to be greeted by staff who were so helpful and polite. Lovely old property re-furbished in a sympathetic way with all the mod cons We had the Landlords wing - spa bath was fabulous, double sinks, big bedroom with lovely windows, and also possibly a ghost! Lovely little touches such as complimentary snacks too. Everything really, we got a laterooms deal and had the suite above the old pub, a beautiful bed and fantastic bathroom made for a very comfortable stay. Breakfast was very nice indeed, and we would have stayed another night had there been a room available. Came back and tried the restaurant which was also very, very nice. Top drawer. We had a fabulous break at the hotel. Accommodation was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Breakfasts were fresh and delicious. We stepped out of our 'comfort zone' for meals in the evenings as the menu was quite unusual and we were blown away by the quality. Staff were friendly and professional at all times.....Faultless. Everything! The bed was comfortable, the shower powerful, selection of coffee/teas (and teapot) in the room with delicious handmade flapjacks and the breakfast was amazing. And last but not least, the staff were so welcoming and helpful; nothing was too much trouble for them. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay; we will be back!. We have stayed a number of times at this hotel when we come to Oxford to visit our daughter an University. We find it very comfortable and good quality accommodation with very comfortable rooms and beds. The staff are all very helpful and the food in the restaurant is very good quality at a reasonable price. I was pleasantly surprised with decor of the family room being it both modern but retained its Victorian character. Special thanks goes to Carmel who was a lovely host in making us feel very welcome. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent but be sure to book if you want to eat in the evening. It was nice for once to have a hairdryer that was near a mirror as this is something that most hotels seem to struggle with. Loved the location. Food was excellent and so was the inclusive breakfast , we had the family room which is like a little apartment . Good service , and the staff helpful.Try not to stay in room 3 though as the fans below in the kitchen wall (I think) are a bit noisy. would be happy to stay there again when in the area. WIFI constant, room fresh and adequate. we stayed in march and I believe this hotel has recently been refurbished, this has been done to an extremely high standard. The hotel is very quirkey which is what we also liked. My wife loved the bathroom in the room we stayed in. The staff were friendly,helpful and more than happy to go out of their way for you. Great, quiet location, rooms very clean, modern and comfortable, meals were lovely. Lovely being away from the business of Oxford, but it was a two minute drive to the Park and Ride. Great attentive staff, nothing was too much trouble, they even stored our bikes overnight in their cellar. Great grounds, was perfect to let our little one roam around in the garden. The staff could not be more friendly or helpful. We wanted the concierge to marry our son sh was that friendly and caring. Very pleasant setup. The facilities were absolutely 10/10. A quiet atmosphere in both village and hotel but close to the parks colleges and city of Oxford. Excellent meals a fun wine tasting evening and staff who all tried hard to please. lovely oldy worldy country inn, room was all old beams, and luxury bathroom. all the extra;s where the best quality. staff could.nt do enough to help. very nice place to stay. Staff were excellencent very welcoming. The food was very good as was the selection of wines and beers. The room was well appointed and very clean. Would recommend to friends. It was a very pleasant visit. Rooms were excellent, staff extremely helpful and when a phone charger was left in the room following departure, it was forwarded rimmediately. It is nicely decorated and provides good coffee and teas in the room as well as everything of quality.It has a good restaurant for dinner and the breakfast is first class. Ceilings were very low in our room (#9) even for me and I'm only 5'5. Room was small and we could hear our neighbours coming and going as the stairs were noisy and doors thin. Was a bit tricky getting our cases up the 2 flights of rickety stairs. But I guess that's all part of the charm. Not a thing.... The large high bath was not easy to get in and out of as there no grab handles, a walk in shower would be a lot safer. As you climb into the bath you read the notice that the non slip bath mat is in the wardrobe, the bedroom wardrobe could not be be further away from the bath !!. We wish we could have spend a couple more days there. Nothing - it was a great hideaway from the hustle and bustle of the city, and only half an hour away by bus. We couldn't stay longer :). If I had to be picky there was only one thing and that was maybe a personal preference; the coffee at breakfast was way too strong.... Only complaint would be that the room we were in was very hot at night and there was only one small window which meant it was difficult to cool the room down and the duvet was very very warm which was cosy at first but meant my partner and I were a bit too warm during the nighr. The rooms are very nicely decorated but the new rooms recently refurbished were just above the pub and our room was just above the front door were people congregate to smoke and we had left the window open when we went for our meal and the room smelt of smoke when we came back in and we had to close the window until the pub had closed. The fact we could not stay longer. We will definitely be back to stay again. Not applicable. Nothing. We had to go home. Absolutely nothing. Car park a little cramped but receptionist ran out to move her own car so I could park. No negatives. One of us has a bad back and found the mattress not quite adequate in providing the necessary support. We stayed 4 nights so this was a difficulty. (We did not mention this to staff!). Being an old building access was a little bit awkward and we have a 7 month old baby, but this didn't detract from the experience we had. Nothing. Nothing comes to mind. Only that we didn't have time to stay to supper!. Cant get back to hotel from Oxford very late without a taxi. Everything was excellent. No room service, limited tourist brochures in hotel, pricy food. Shower in bath....would have prefered a walk in shower. I found no faults whatsoever. I really couldn't recommend this place highly enough. Not a thing. power failure in our room. Stairs to room rather awkward.
