Part of the Leisureplex Hotel Group, The Imperial Hotel in Ilfracombe is situated right on the seafront just 80 metres from the beach. The hotel has free parking and its own restaurant and cocktail bar. Rooms at the Imperial Hotel have modern en suite bathrooms and are decorated in warm tones. We had a brilliant room with sea views which was cleaned daily to a very high standard and the girl on reception, Emily, couldn't have been more helpful and professional, offering tips on where to go locally and helping us extensively with any queries we had, booking taxis for us at the cheapest price available, she made our stay incredibly easy and enjoyable! alle vurderinger » Well we picked a good time to go as there was a carnival on the day we arrived which was very good and beer festival with music which was enjoyable. The hotel entertainment was also good. We were extremely impressed with Emily on reception she was polite and very helpful at all times. Very friendly and courteous staff on Reception and dining room. Food good. Room good - adequate for 1 person, good that they had heating on in a very cold May. Very good location,convenient for touring and the town and beach. On confirming our booking the hotel rang to ask us if we realised there was no parking available at the hotel , giving us the opportunity to reconsider , but advising of suitable parking locations nearby. The room was very clean and comfortable and the bathroom in good condition.The shower unit was especially good and the décor nice and in tip top shape.Receptionists were friendly and helpful. Rather a 'coach party' hotel for elderly and not terrible mobile people than younger or singles, I felt a little out of place at times so didn't stay in the hotel much, just meals and sleep. Limited choice of tv channels. no negatives for me or my family. Small slow lift, A fan and Internet access in rooms would have been nice. However, this was unusually hot weather, and considering the age of the hotel, I was relieved they had a lift and at least Internet access in the lounge. Evening entertainer - excellent voice but too loud for comfortable conversation, even away from the bar area. Breakfast was disappointing, would have liked croissants/pastries available. Would have preferred buffet style, service seemed a little stiff and yet basic. Coffee was tasteless, quality coffee makes a real difference to a breakfast. Some waiting staff had poor English skills. Not clear where to sit when first enter dining room for breakfast. A "wait here to be seated " sign would be useful. Also, beds a little soft, but that's purely personal.(Bad backs need firm mattresses). the bed was to hard not enough milk in room for two. Nothing. Wi fi was not very good and TV reception poor. Only one lift for four floors , in a very busy hotel . Dining room was dark and dingy. Blankets on beds were rough and uncomfortable to sleep under. Journey from our room to the dining room.Lift was inadequate.The whole hotel needed a facelift.Smokers standing just outside the entrance creating a haze of smoke that swept back into the reception. Lift was rather small for a large hotel. Other visitors noisily using the lift outside our room at ridiculously early times. They should have been reminded that others are trying to sleep. Nothing. the bedroom was dated and there was no bath allso the blankets on the bed were too heavy1why no duvets?. Food could have been warmer and perhaps prepared a little later as it was not as crisp and fresh and fresh as you would expect from such a large hotel. Breakfast would be better buffet style. Lack of food. Nothing!!!!!. Rooms far too warm, even with windows open Better pillows, the ones we had were very flat. a bit too noisy when the old folk went to bed after the entertainment. Boring and dull decor in the dining room - a dark brown/orange colour scheme with no pictures or windows to lighten the area. wall were quite thin and could hear people in the other rooms quite clearly. The Hotel felt like an old peoples home. It seemed to be designed to suit the needs of the older person and did not seem family friendly. We expected to have full use of the free wifi, but was told that it was only available in the 2 lounges. The TV seemed old fashioned, we were expecting to have use of a flat screen TV with facilities to play DVD's etc. Everything else. The smell, the food (sparse and cold), stuffiness of the room, the sound of a generator on 24/7 outside the window, wifi was hit and miss, shower leaked badly, bed really uncomfortable and FULL of 90+'s. No wi-fi in rooms. Limited parking availability. Lack of parking was an issue initially although we did eventually get a space. The hotel is very dated but seemed to suit the majority of the clientele. There was no view as such from room 325.
