At an altitude of 1200 metres, Rifugio Perugia was built in 1929. It is located above the Piano Grande plateau, 600 metres from the Forche Canapine Ski resort. The Rifugio was completely renovated preserving the original Rationalist architecture. It offers compact guest rooms and dormitory rooms, all with shared bathroom. The Perugia is in the municipality of Castelluccio di Norcia, at the foot of Mount Vettore. Parking is free. The restaurant with bar serves local cuisine, including the area's famous Castelluccio lentils. During summer the garden is equipped with parasols, chairs and tables.

Rifugio Perugia was exactly what I expected. It's position was perfect for walking in the Sibillini which was why we went there. I know those running the refuge want to put bathroom facilities into each room ( currently they are shared) but this will cost EUR 300K and they don't have this amount of dosh. However, this was a truly lovely place to stay - high up in the Sibillini with lots of comparatively easy and beautiful walking around, visiting wild horses, the odd donkey, buzzards, harriers .
