This is a lovely hospitable, unpretentious 15th century pub with clean, cosy accommodation. Great food, local ales and cider with a friendly atmosphere and stunning views of the river Wye. Jamie is lovely and will chat with you and share his local knowledge if you want to know where to walk etc. The staff are relaxed and friendly. Lunch & dinner was lovely and breakfast was also tasty and ample with drinks topped up. The ferry was free as we were staying at the pub. We had a room on t.
alle beoordelingen » Everything! this was our second visit...and a third is planned for next year! :) plenty to do for everyone. We don't do the canoes but its great watching those who do. Open fires in the pub for the cold times, pool and family games. Jamie, the owner, couldn't make you feel more welcome! All the staff were friendly and helpful...lovely to be greeted by lovely smiling Annett in the morning at breakfast! and witty Jamie. Jamie and his staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The room we were given, the ferrieman, was lovely, well equipped and spacious and had stunning views up and down the river. We ate breakfast and dinner at the Inn and found the food to be beautifully presented, good quality, with plenty of choice and at a reasonable price. Lovely riverside location -popular with boaters/canoeists in the summer.During our stay weather was very cold with snow forecast.Very friendly staff with sense of humour as well as service who assisted with travel plans etc. Would return in better weather to enjoy the panoramic river views. EVERYTHING our 3rd visit and planned our 4th already! This was our first autumn visit...the area is beautiful, and with the open fire in the bar, and snuggly warm bedrooms, with cookies and hot chocolate! Warm and comfortable room and large bathroom which we considered to be good value. We enjoyed our evening meal and the log fire and comfortable sofas. A good breakfast with plenty of choice was available. The staff were friendly and and offered good service. Very friendly welcome, food excellent, good nights sleep, views from all areas couldn't be better. Not rushed for breakfast which was a bonus plus that was also very good, Gary had kippers and I have the full English, kept us going for the rest of the day. This is the "gem" in Symonds Yat! Location is brilliant, Licensee and staff are great and certainly went the extra mile to ensure our stay was enjoyed, If you want a unique location in Symonds Yat then this is the place! Didn't want to come home as the restful atmosphere had de-stressed us. the staff are very friendly and welcoming as is the owner jamie.the view from the room of the river was wonderfull and the food in the pub is really good did not feel the need to eat any where else for evening meal. What a lovely place to staff rooms are basic but are clean and have everything you need. The staff were so friendly and nothing was to much trouble. The room had a lovely view and was always warm. We found from the word go the staff were extremely friendly &helpful.Jamie the owner went out of his way to make our short stay a memorable one.Even put our freezer blocks in the fridge for us. River location ease of car parking delicious meals with good quality very comfortable bed with high quality sheets, etc. Also very happy to find a flat pillow. No need to have brought my own. (only because that's MY favourite....ooo and salmon ;) but this is a personal preference, the food we chose was yum! ). Nothing. The only thing we found slightly negative was that the whole pub is slightly run down, needs quite a bit of work but it wouldn't stop us from going back !!. The only part I didn't like was that I couldn't stay longer!. Stairs rather steep. the freezing weather. nothing really. Decor a bit tired and obviously has experienced issues with recent floods, but nevertheless an excellent stay. Room was cold when we arrived, but an additional heater was provided when requested. Nothing loved it..... Limited menu but I think this might just be because it's winter and not so busy. Seemingly no room heating within room difficulty with plugging in kettle from table. needs a little renovation in places but progress is being made. We had to leave to continue our Holiday. Nothing. Our bathroom was tiny, and really uncomfortable to be honest. Drainage was affected by rainfall. The only fault was the fact that the building's age meant that soundproofing wasn't great and we did hear almost every noise that our neighbours in the room next door made. Nothing. Decor in common areas needs some attention; but the place is charming. Difficult staircase for the elderly. Weather very cold for May and the restaurant could have been a bit warmer both at lunchtime and evening. If I were the owners I would change the door immediately!! Either re-locate it or put a new one in as it doesn'r close easily and the draft is not pleasant. Saying that I bet when the fire is on it is lovely - just unlikely due to unseasonal weather. I would go back!. Minor gripes, bathroom very small and the room needs proper curtains as the sun came streaming through very early making it hard to sleep. Nothing. Draughty. It was a very cold snap and the bar/restaurant area was a bit chilly at times. Take a good sweater if the weather is cold. It isn't close enough to where we live. Just a bit tashed but not bad for sevral centuries and regular flooding!. Very small bathroom. Restaurant area could do with some redecoration. bed rather small. Tiniest TV in the world. Not easy to find.
