The Square and Compass is a traditional country pub in the quaint village of Windmill Hill. It offers home-cooked food, real ales and individually designed rooms. Taunton is 5 miles away. Rooms have been built in the style of a stable block and feature power showers, separate baths and free toiletries. The way we were met on arrival by Chris. Even at 9.45pm he came and got our television working at the cost of an electric shock to him from the aerial. The quality of the food and the overall service and pleasant manner of the staff. The light on continuously in the Wet Room so no one else is disturbed through the night from another person in need of the toilet. Our room could not be faulted, and wi-fi reception was excellent. Dog-walking in February can be a muddy experience, but the owners had even thought about a 'hosing down' place. We were spoilt for choice at breakfast, and beware the size of the evening meals if you value your waist line. Overall, a top class experience which we expect to repeat .
alle beoordelingen » The Square and Compass Stables are separate stables each with their own little front door. They are roomy and have a great wetroom, and have tea and coffee facilities and are very up to date and clean, only recently having been purpose built. Staff at the hotel and barn a few yards away are very friendly and the food there is very nice. 1. The friendly and warm welcome. 2. The size of the room. 3. The bed and bedding. 4. The wonderful bathroom. 5. The thoughtfulness; e.g. even the kettle was ready filled. 6. Dog friendly. 7. The fact we could take our dog into the pub whilst we had our meal. 8. The generous portions. The room in the stable block was very comfortable. Bath/SHower excellent. Food in the Square and Compass was excellent and to be recommended. Location was good for me as I was working in Taunton. Nice to not stay in one of the many impersonal chain hotels. Will stay again. Friendly staff. Big, comfortable bed, and soft pillows, in purpose built room, with bath and shower en suite, and loads of space. In countryside so perfect for peace and quiet. Fabulous evening meal in pub, chosen from menu printed daily. Would definitely stay here again. The room was excellent, huge bed, clean and well equipped. Not really dislike but a small criticism: No under floor heating in the Wet Room to dry the floor out after using the shower. I would imagine in the winter the floor would be very cold to walk on in bare feet. Wet Room floor tiles too slippery. Not a thing. We hired out two rooms and one (the one next to the storeroom) sported quite a few spiders. Ok if you are fine with spiders but not otherwise! However, the place is in the heart of the countryside and therefore not really something to complain about!. Nothing - it was fabulous! Many thanks!. As I was on business the only thing that I could mark it down on was lack of WIFI in the rooms. (I howver had other ways of connecting so not realy an issue). Duvet a bit lumpy and bedlinen could do with replacing, as dye stains on several pillowcases. Minor niggle. Nothing. Just a very slight niggle, some sort of extraction noise triped in and out. Probably more noticable due to the fact we had the windows open during the hot spell. There is a barn next to the rooms. Music nights are held. On our night there was a gig which lasted until 11pm and that was fine. The owner had great confidence in the expenditure on soundproofing but when a door is opened the music can be heard. I am not complaining here but simply drawing attention to the potential nuisance should the gig run late; maybe they never do. Nothing. Nothing. The room was chilly when we arrived but this was quickly remedied. The kettle was slow and then stoppd working altogether!. Rather isolated location. The inside of the pub could do with a little spit and polish. The chairs were very dusty. Nothing to dislike. Food was lovely but only minor comment - could have a better selection for vegetarian cooked breakfast!. Nothing to dislike. Location a little difficult to find using sat nav, best stop and ask someone when close so you dont miss it. room cold due to heater located under window and covered by curtains. No reception area. No dining room in pub. The young staff members were delightful and with a bit more experience will really shine. Needs a sign say on the corner near the petrol station to help find it. had a few cobwebs but didnt bother us. Nothing really. N/a. Nothing. Nothing!.
