  The pensione is central, quiet, clean and comfortable. The air con was a pleasant respite from 39 degree temp outside for a mid afternoon siesta. The hosts were friendly and pleasant although we were new to Spain and they had little English we didn't converse much. Entry was by ringing the doorbell which was good for security but made us feel awkw... wat mensen zeggen » ard when we thought they might be resting. - We stayed 1 night in Pension el Portillo and the room was perfect for that time. It is a rather small family-run business in a very good location (around 5 mins walk from La Mosquita and Alcazar), clean and comfortable, with a lovely owner. I would not choose it for longer stay (3-4 days) but it was perfect for 1 night.

Despite the fact that we hardly spoke any Spanish and the owner didn't speak any English, the owner was extremely friendly and helpful, and was very welcoming. The place was very clean, and very nicely decorated, and our room was very comfortable. The location was slightly out of town and the walk to the Mezquita was around 15 minutes - we appreciated the fact th - perfect service - totally friendly, attentive lady who offers tips on where-and-what to do; 24hrs reception; the Hostal is a typical Andalucian house with an inner patio and the room decoration was pure Andalucian feel; bathroom with hot water; big towels, fresh towels offered every day; TV with local channels; full independence - keys to the gate, no curfew; the location is 100% central; free wifi access in room.

  The staff were very friendly and helpful and provided recommendations of where to eat at a reasonable price and places to visit and kindly marked these for us on a map. The rooms were nice and airy and very clean. They also served free tea and coffee between 4pm and 9pm which I thought was a nice touch. The hostal was great value for money - Lovely little courtyard oasis in the centre of the Hostal, small room but well laid out, and a fresh clean decor and comfortable bed. I was in one of the 4 rooms which face each other above the courtyard which meant the noise and privacy aspects concerned me on arrival but it turned it to be very quiet in the evening, nearly all the guests seemed to be in bed at 11pm. The free tea/coffee and cake put out in the afternoon was a lovely touch and really appreciated. Check in was friendly and effic
