A fantastic location for a relaxed and convenient holiday. Hotel Gaasterland is a terriffic base of operation for bycicle and hiking tours. In the immediate vicinity you can enjoy clear water for swimming or fishing, large forrests, freshgreen meadows and characteristic towns like Stavoren, Hindeloopen and Workum.

The hotel is a fine base for excursions: the Jopie Huisman Museum in Workum pittoresque fishing villages, like Hindeloopen en Stavoren situated along Friesland's eleven cities (famous Elfstedentocht:skating), five of the eleven cities are in our region. the historical fortified city of Sloten various boat tours over the Frisian lakes

To give you a foretaste: In the immediate surroundings of the hotel there are various marked hike- and bicycle - routes. At 2,5 km from the hotel you find the IJsselmeer; a good place to take a swim, or for fishing and sunbathing. The Frisian Lakes (Friese Meren) are perfect for sailing or cruising. At the hotel you can rent bycicles and covered wagons.

The hotel comprises 50 spacious rooms, equipped with toilet, shower, TV and telephone. A few rooms are equipped with bath. A good night's rest is indispensable for a pleasant stay. That is why we attach much value to the comfort of our beds. For invalid guests there are also rooms at ground level. The first floor is accessible by means of an elevator.

Hotel Gaasterland is situated in Friesland near the IJsselmeer and can be reached easily by car. Within 45 minutes you can reach Heereveen. Rijs is Frieslands oldest holiday destination, with a famous forest.

From the A7 (afsluitdijk) follow the direction of Sneek/Bolsward. At the exit
Bolsward you follow the signs Workum/Balk (N359) until you get exit Rijs to the right. When you enter the village Rijs, go to the left. Within 100 meters you will find the hotel on your left hand.

From A7 (Groningen/Joure), follow the A6 to Lemmer and take the first exit Sloten/Balk. In Balk, go to the left, within 5 minutes you will reach Rijs. When you enter the village Rijs, go to the left. Within 100 meters you will find the hotel on your left hand.
