My luggage was kept safe for me after checking out until I was ready to leave late in the evening after my program in Rome.   The hotel exceeded my expectation. It is in a safe location, actually right opposite the Vatican by the entrance side. The other tourist attractions are walkable but if you are not fit like me, public transportation is nearby.
