The hotel was excellent and certainly lived up to it's description and reviews. Marion and Les (the owners) were very welcoming (the pot of tea on arrival was very much appreciated). The hotel is great and you feel right at home in a relaxing atmosphere. The breakfast room was very pleasant and the breakfast was excellent. We couldn't have asked for more. My criteria for this trip were simply: economical; close to train station; WiFi and ideally with breakfast. 5-out-of-5 all round for this place and the bonus of welcoming and friendly landlady and landlord was doubleplusgood. Breakfast well worth getting up for, clean and comfortable rooms and ideally located for public transport, walking and the town centre. -
Tony & Jill are excellent hosts and clearly enjoy what they do. The relatively small nature of their business allows them to be more personal and create a home from home atmosphere. The extra touches were a bonus. Breakfast was plentiful and really set us up for our bay walk to Torquay. We'll be back in the off season for some bracing walks along the prom !

The tea and coffee served on our arrival was greatly appreciated.
The breakfast menu choices were both innovative and very tasty and the portions suited us perfectly.
We found the beds really comfortable and there was no shortage of hot water.
Bathrooms and bedrooms were spotlessly clean and the communal lounge was a great asset.

Everything! A good renewal of a once-failing harbour-side pub, and no longer a place to avoid. 1st class staff, excellent food, great rooms (especially #1 which has a HUGE bed!!) A great place that will only bring business to Appledore. The owners are really pleasant and the place is dog-friendly! Go and enjoy!
