  Desert Retreat Camp is a relatively small camp with some 16 tents / units. It is located nicely on a flat area next to massive sand dunes some 21 km south of the village of Al Wasil, on the main road running north of Whaba Sands. The first 9 km are tarmac, the next 11 farily easy driving through gravel and some sand. Doable with a 2 wheel drive, b... cosa dice la gente » ut 4x4 is preferable. If you do not have a 4x4 or prefere to leave yur car at Al Wasil, Humaid, the owner will take you to the camp (for a fee a belie - This was a wonderful get-away place! Humaid (owner/manager) was very well spoken, kind, and accommodating. I loved the dune bashing and camel ride as well as the food, atmosphere, and quietness/calmness that the place created. I highly recommend to anyone. There are other camps in the area that are larger, but I don't think they have the same 1:1 that Desert Retreat does.

  Hadi very camp between sand dunes, and the staff were very friendly and hospitable. We had a modest tent, and a bathroom with a decent shower. We enjoyed watching the sunset while sitting on one of the many sand dunes which are located in the vicinity of the camp. Included both dinner and breakfast very tasty and free with the tent.   Oriental Nights Rest House is the closest guest house to the famous and picturesque Wadi Bani Khalid. It has the perfect location for exploring this area. Whilst it is not luxurious, it is basic, functional and clean - and excellent value for money.
