The River Gate Inn is a 'gem' within Winnipeg. We had stayed in a couple hotels and the stay at RGI was much more relaxing, friendly, and comfortable than any of the hotels. This was our first stay in an Inn in Wpg and it will be our first choice when we return. The grounds are well maintained and felt like we were out in the country rather than in the middle of a city. Pretty much everything. We loved the atmosphere and character of the house. The wonderful breakfast and the little "extras" like the fruit, drinks, chocolates and free long-distance calling were the icing on the cake. It cost a little more than we would usually spend, but it was definitely worth it!.
The owners were very willing to make us happy with the whole experience. They made food the way we liked it, they built a fire for us in the fireplace, and got us the things we needed. All the furniture and the neighborhood were beautiful. The neighborhood seemed very safe and peaceful.
Location - very easy to reach from the airport, quiet leafy suburban street, surrounded by gardens and river.
Presentation - a beautiful house, excellently maintained and serviced
Service - a warm welcome received from the property owners, personal service and local knowledge.
Great owner in Bob & Mavis, who made you feel immediately at ease
and would always ask if they could do anything to make it better. The
breakfasts Mavis prepared were excellent! Really comfortable bed and
great surroundings that were relaxing. Five stars!.
I liked the attention to detail in all the "little things" in addition to the tasteful decor and good food.
E.g. the sterling silver teaspoons in my room with my coffee mugs!.
Quiet. Private. Architecturally interesting. Breakfast was well made and presented with respect for choices. Location is urban, but doesn't seem so.
A wonderful oasis. Wished I could have stayed there longer. I was treated like royalty. I would highly recommend it and already have!!!!!.

We did not have any issues whatsoever.
The only negative thing I can think of is that it would be nice to have another lamp or source of light in the bedroom we stayed in. Once night came, it was a little on the dark side. Other than that, it was great!.
The house is very old, so the floors are extremely squeaky, the windows aren't well insulated and the bathroom door provides no sound barrier.
