  We really didn't know what to expect aside from reading reviews. It's different! We wanted different. We didn't want a typical hotel room. We wanted character and I feel that is exactly what we got. Great location! Fabulous service from the bar, restaurant, and other staff! Free wifi and breakfast each morning were a huge plus! They even provided a tv and playstation along with games which was nic - The Guy Fawkes Inn is such a great place, the location is spot-on for a stay in York, the place is steeped in history and the rustic charm of the inn is amazing, you feel like you've travelled back in time once you step through the door, but in a good way :) The staff are amazing, very professional and very friendly, you feel at home straight away.   The apartment was spacious (a king bed in the separate bedroom and two chairs that opened out to two very comfortable beds in the living room), with a huge bathroom with tub and shower, and a fully equipped kitchen. It was beautifully appointed down to the high quality bed linens and towels. York Minster was a 5 minute walk with shopping, restaurants and pubs everywhere. - Location, near a gate to the old city and very close to shops, as the main reason for our visit was to do our Christmas shopping. Accurate, detailed instructions for finding the apartment were easy to follow. Also the small problem we had with the kitchen lighting was dealt with very promptly, effectively and courteously. The apartment was warm and cosy and suited our needs very well.

  another enjoyable stay on one of the busiest weekends ever!yet staff still had time to show us to our room and show us around. we love this place for its quirkiness and the beer garden which our room overlooked - had to remember to shut the bathroom blind or people would have been treated to a view of us ! good value excellent food and staff who r... ce que les gens disent » eally do listen to what you want and try to do it. good mix of age group in staff and nice to have a pub where you can talk without shouting over loud - Although I have ticked city trip, because that is what we did in York, The Lamb & Lion comes under a different description. It has lots of character. We stayed in the Attic, it was beautiful. Really comfortable. Brilliant being in the middle of York, parked in Marygate carpark and didn't go back until we left. Staff lovely, left the phone charger in the room when we left, Manager posted it back to me next day, no problem. Breakfast delightful. Would definitely go back.

  We were amazed! Not wanting the formality of a hotel and having stayed in luxury apartments in coastal resorts for our summer holidays we thought we would try The Lawrance. Only two words can described our feelings when we unlocked the door - absolutely fabulous!   The location was perfect, very central for the city's main attractions, especially the Minster and the railway station. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We arrived very early but they kept our bags and put them in the room when it was ready. Our room (Nr 2) was spacious with a very comfortable bed and, if the furniture was not new, it was... ce que les gens disent » very well maintained. The shower was a good size and there was heating both in the room and in the en-suite bathroom. Even though the reception is no - The staff was very friendly and helpful. We arrived early and since the room was ready, they let us go upstairs and freshen up before sightseeing. The room was clean, comfortable and had a beautiful view of the wall. It was within walking distance to everything and had free parking for our rental car. I can highly recommend Gregorian House.
