La Principessa is a family-run hotel, situated near to the majestic ancient city of Cortona, offering a relaxing atmosphere in a lovely setting.

Your experience will only be enhanced by the handmade terracotta floors and traditional Tuscan furniture. The pleasant Tuscan inspired rooms and suites are decorated with traditional furnishings, chestnut wood beams, terracotta flooring, and painted in soft natural colors.

Behind the hotel, an expansive lawn leads directly onto the entertainment area, complete with an olympic-sized pool, equipped with umbrellas and loungers for sun bathing. The adjoining restaurant, Seven, features seasonal dishes, local specialties and thin crust pizza baked in a wood burning oven.

The description of this hotel fails to mention that it is on the grounds of a huge public swimming pool complex with a water slide and lots of noisy children. Evenings include loud music from the poolside bar. This is not a good destination for those looking for a peaceful night but it might appeal to a family with children. No Hot Water.

Seven invites you to experience the celebrated Tuscan tradition of enjoying excellent food and drink. Pizza made in a wood burning oven is available in the evenings, and there is a poolside bar. Internationally renowned Mamma Donatella, Chef Ornella, and the friendly and efficient staff make your meal a delicious and pleasurable experience. The only difficulty will be in choosing from the traditional Tuscan dishes: simple recipes which combine choice ingredients for exquisite results. The wines on the carefully selected wine list are mostly Tuscan and include fine local selections.

Information about the area

Cortona, one of the twelve original cities forming the Etruscan confederation, is little changed from medieval times. Its enormous Etruscan walls were erected in 700 B.C. and encircle structures which haven’t been changed since the medieval period. With the exception of a few Renaissance palaces, the buildings of Cortona date back to medieval times; follow the narrow, winding and steep streets into an ancient time that most people only ever read about. From anywhere in Cortona you will have fantastic views over Valdichiana, with sweeping views of Lake Trasimeno towards Umbria.

By Train
From Florence or Rome, use Terontola or Camucia Station
From Perugia, Assisi or Terni, use Terontola Station (with some trains stopping at Camucia)
La Principessa is a few kilometers from either of these two train stops, which are in foothill neighborhoods of Cortona.

By Car
1. From A1 (either north- or southbound) take the Valdichiana exit.
2. After you pay your toll, turn to the right and follow directions to the Perugia highway
3. Continue on it for about 12 km to the Cortona exit (second exit on the way).
4. In just under 3 km you'll see Cortona on the hill.
5. Once you reach Camucia, follow signs to Arezzo
6. Turn left towards Fratta (indication signs will be on your
left from the state road) and we are on the right hand
side.
