We stayed in Beijing at Xiao Yuan Alley Courtyard Hotel for 3 nights. It is lovely small hotel in Chinese style. It is very friendly, pleasant, comfortable and cute! It is situated in an old Beijing district Hutong, which is probably the only bastion of traditional Chinese climate left. It is situated max. 30-minute walk from the Forbidden city.

Featuring charming, ultra-helpful English-speaking staff; the Xiao Yuan Alley hotel provides comfortable beds and good facilities, with a superbly located downtown hutong (Beijing alley) location, sensibly priced organized tours (if you wish) and excellent and very reasonably priced food available inside and nearby outside the hotel. And it's a very affordable place.
I very much want to stay at this hotel again. I get happy just thinking about it. Highly recommend.

Situation et proprete - L'hotel est tres bien situé dans Pekin : 10 minutes de la cité interditeet de la place Tiannmen. Le petit dejeuner est un peu cher pour le pays,mais tres copieux et permet d'attendre le repas du soir. Le personnelest très serviable.

The location was very convenient as it was close to forbidden city,
tiananmen, jingshan park, and wangfujing! There is also a nice
convenience store downstairs and great alley cafe down the road. Family
room was spacious and had a pc. Its also inside a nice, quiet and
quaint compound.staff were helpful in getting us a taxi and attending
to our needs.

This hotel is a budget-friendly hotel, if you get it at the right time.
Checking-in and out takes time (don't know why, but this is one of
the longest processes and always busy line). It is 100 meters from the
airport express/metro station - so it's an easy stop. It hides
behind another hotel, so it can be difficult to find the first time.

Very comfortable and clean, traditional chinese gardens and furnishings. Perfectly situated in the hutongs ( what a welcome difference to the bland upmarket chain hotels in the centre) . The hotel was decorated in old style china, great if you want the feel of stepping back in time.The rooms were clean and tidy and the gardens and buildings are very picturesque. Staying here puts you in the centre of a real chinese community, all the people were friendly and if you are a westerner you will draw a few glances. Overall we were very pleased with the hotel and location

Really like the place, real Beijing feel. -
By its very nature I was immersed in the Hutong and saw how those people live on a daily basis.
For one week I got to feel like a real Beijinger living in the Hutong (albeit a fancy Hutong) and see the culture in a way that is impossible for a tour group staying in a fancy hotel.

The hotel is just a few minutes walk from Tienanmen Square, in a very colourful area with plenty of restaurants and shops.
The room was simple but clean, the towels were changed every day.
The hotel has also a very cosy bar/restaurant area, mainly used for breakfast, and one or two computers are available if you need to use the internet.
Most of the staff speak English and they are happy to give you advice on the best ways to get to places.
