Definitely did not think it was as bad as some of the earlier reviews make out. In terms of value for money and location it was the best place we stayed in Rio de Janiero (private double room with bathroom and really good air conditioning in a convienient location). We booked our room without balcony, but we ended with the room wiht balcony looking at the Sugar Loaf mountain. What a nice surprise! Our room was really clean, spacious and cozy with our own fridge.
Breakfast is basic with the choice of savoury or sweet, but is served on the roof terrace and that was very nice.

Rooms were spartan but clean, bed was very comfortable (I like a hard bed), location is right downtown so you don't have to go far to get anything. Staff were as helpful as they could be despite a significant language barrier. Very good value for what I paid and would happily stay again. -

Staff was very kind. They let us in the room although it were 7:00 in the morning (when we arrived from the flight). They even gave us breakfast when we arrived. Hotel had facilities exactly what we needed, and it is near Lapa part of Rio. -

The staff was very helpful and did everything they could to make our stay pleasant. As dated as the decor was it was nice to have a spa bath and a sauna in the room. There are ongoing renovations at the hotel and it should be much nicer within 6 months. -
